Urgent referral

Hi last week I went to my GP as I have been getting bleeding during intercourse plus outwith my cycle, also been getting pelvic pain.  The gp had a look and said I had a polyp and also bleeding on my cervix.  She said she wld need to refer me for an urgent referral which is tomorrow.  I'm so worried has anyone else had this?

  • Hi Heldo and welcome to the forum.

It's always a tad worrying being referred but I hope your appointment went well yesterday and they were able to put your mind at ease.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in similar situations will be along soon but if you'd like to talk things through with one of cancer nurses you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Heldo73,

I had a couple of 2 week referrals due to odd occasions of bleeding after intercourse and period getting longer. First outcome was a polyp which was removed from cervix, the other occasion was unknown.

If you are up-to-date with smears then chances are it's the polyp causing the bleeding.  I am due hysteroscopy soon as my periods are up to 14 days in length with on/off bleeding. Apparently I have lots of little fibroids and polyps in uterus which might be causes the problems.

    Best wishes.

  • Hi Clare thank you for replying, when I got seen yesterday my smear results where there and have came bk normal which is good as I've had abnormal cells removed twice.  The doctor has taken a biopsy and I've told to fit an ultrasound but I'm feeling a lot more relaxed now.

I hope your operation goes well xx

  • Thank you Steph,

well my smear came bk normal, the doctor has taken a biopsy and I've to go for an ultrasound but I'm feeling a lot more relaxed and positive that they will come bk ok.  I may have to go on contraceptive pill or coil to help with the bleeding which I wld rather not seeing as I got sterilised to avoid this.
