Cervical smear unsuccessfull

I am 60 years of age and had been called for my last cervical screening.  The first attempt to get the sample was very painful and had to be aborted.  The nuse suggested I had a course of Vagifem prior to the next attempt to help.  This I have done and returned yesterday for a 2nd attempt, this also has been unsuccessful, but the nurse reported the Vagifem had been helpful, it was just she could not find my Cervix after trying with me lying on my back and side amd using the smallest and next size up instrument.  I am 5' 7" and she thought it may be that I am tall was the reason.  I have never had a family and my husband has been my only only sexual partner for 36 years.

I am worried what the next steps may be and am waiting for the surgery to phone and advise.
