One swollen lymph node in neck

Hi everyone,

I have came here seeking some advice or consolidation about a swollen lymph node I have in my neck. I am an 18 year old female and am becoming quite anxious over it.

basically, I have never really suffered with any throat or chest infections until August 2019 when I got my first ever bout of tonsilitis. It was quite severe but went away within about a week. Then come September I had a horrendous cough which they then diagnosed as a chest infection and I was given antibiotics, which cleared that up. Then come October/November, I was back at the doctors multiple times with the cough again as it was beginning to make me vomit from the phlegm I was bringing up and they tested me for glandular fever but that came back negative. This lasted around a month and a half but seemed to clear up alone. During this time quite a few of my lymph nodes in my neck and under my ears seemed to swell up, which I guess was just in response to the infection. I had another sore throat in December but I never went to the docs as it was bareable and cleared up itself. The lymphnodes all went back down bar one on the right side of my neck. In January 2020 I had another infection with a sore throat/cough which again cleared up alone after about a week, I went to the out of hours with this and my bloods came back normal except from having some lymphocytes in them but the doctor didn't seem concerned.

So, this lymphnode in the right side of my neck has just been worrying me more than anything. It's painless when I touch it, rolls about under my fingers, I can move it from side to side/up and down. It doesn't feel massive but it doesn't feel small either. I am going to try and get a doctors appointment for this just to get it checked out.

has anyone had any experiences like this?

thanks ️

  • Hi Ejm18x,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's good to hear you've booked an appointment with your GP for this - it's always good to do that if you're concerned, and it should give you peace of mind. Your doctor will be best placed to advise on this, so do ask them any questions you may have - and hopefully this will be helpful for you.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • I have just read your comment and it's so strange I'm 17years old F and going through exact same thing. My sore throat keeps returning time after time even after antibiotics. I've had swollen lymphnode behind my right ear for about 3/4 months now. The GP got my bloods done and they came back completely normal. However, my right tonsil is so much larger than my left and has been swelling up for a while now. My throat isn't sore but my tonsil is huge and has white on it and a small red lump (looks like bleeding) I'm really concerned so I've contacted the doctors once again but I feel like I'm just getting nowhere with them. Did you get any information on what was wrong?
