Waiting for breast clinic - having anxiety attacks

Hi there

I had suffered with some breast pain initially a couple of months back, this was felt mainly to the right side of my breast, not constant but still noticeable. I went to the GP who couldn't find any lumps and was told to try ibroprofen. Since then I have felt the pain much more, again not constant but a mixture of a strange sensations and occasionally burning, I went back to the GP because my armpit just felt a little odd (no visible lumps) she checked me and then said there was a lump right underneath, feels like a cyst. But obviously you don't know.

I now have an appointment for the breast clinic but since the doctors and week or so ago I've just got worse and worse with anxiety to the point now I'm questioning every ache pain in my body, constant fast heartbeat, feeling sick, can't sleep, can't eat much etc. I actually had what felt like an anxiety attack yesterday.

I guess I'm so worried now that my armpit feels a little swollen etc. Just looking for support etc I have a small daughter so the fear is really really effecting me.

thank you for reading

  • Hi there

I understand your anxiety as I've been in the same boat this week , my appointment is tomorrow morning. When I got the call back letter it stressed me but then I decided to  put it to the back of my mind as much as possible. Keeping busy is the best thing . Worrying won't change the outcome anyway it's a wasted emotion. Try to plan something nice for yourself while you're waiting, we always think the worst in these situations but we must live in hope that all will be ok & if it's not at least we'll be in the system & getting looked after .

    Hi RLFur and TayKa,

I know that it's probably pointless to tell you not to worry. I just wanted to say that the way that you are both feeling is perfectly normal.

All the symptoms that you're accumulating are also par for the course at this stage and, most are possibly due to your anxiety or to constantly examining your breasts.

I hope that all goes well for you both at the breast clinic. This is always a worrying time and the best way to distract yourself from the wait is to keep yourself busy meanwhile. Also, try to avoid looking on the internet until you know what the matter is and, even then, stick to the more respected sites like this one.

Please let us know the outcome of your visit. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Dublady,

I'm glad to hear that your friend is going with you tomorrow. It is particularly important to have someone with you whenever you are going to get the results of tests. This may be your next visit in this case. It can also be helpful to write down any questions you have for your consultant.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine
