Worried about Secondary cancer

Hi everyone,  i’m just looking for some reassurance really, my  mum was diagnosed with stage three bowel cancer 18 months ago she had a colostomy and chemotherapy and has been feeling a lot better recently and she has even gained weight which has always been a struggle for her.  She’s had 2 CT scans and blood tests since which have all been fine but they did find a small polyp in her colon in December which was  benign.  Anyhow she had a full body CT scan over three weeks ago and we hadn’t heard anything so hoped it was no news was good news but yesterday she received a call to say that they had found something on her liver but they are not sure what it is and she needs to go for an MRI scan.  Surely they can see on a CT scan if it is a tumour or not  and why the long wait to get in contact with her I was thought it was two weeks ifcancer was suspected?  I’m not sure what to think I’m beside myself with worry i’m wishing I hadn’t looked into it on Google but at the same time I’m trying to reassure her. Thanks in advance x

  • Hi Buzzyk,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read about your worries but it is of course perfectly understandable given the uncertainty and waiting for information. Sometimes a variety of tests are needed for the medical team to verify things. The two weeks applies to urgent referrals - I'm not sure if this applies to your mum, but you can read more about it here.

Try to avoid looking things up on Google as this rarely helps and the information can often be irrelevant or out of date.

Wishing you all the best and I hope you're able to find out more soon,

    Ben
