Abnormal result need a colposcopy

Had a letter written on 11/2/2020 saying abnormal results and need a colposcopy. And a letter sent from colposcopy clinic dated 12/2/2020 sent out 1 day later.

Appointment for colposcopy 24/2/2020 for 9am

My hearts in my mouth!

I am worried as my mum had carinsacacoma (think that's how it's spelt) womb cancer! Diagnosis in the Jan of 2015 had chemotherapy treatment and past away October 2015.

Even though it says on the letter it doesn't mean its cervical cancer its still a huge worry.

The other thing I wanted to ask is... Its just a letter at the top left hand corner Cervical Screening Wales, and in Welsh with their address opposite, then my name and address with the date opposite that, then under that stating in English on one side and Welsh on the opposite that I have abnormal cells?

Is this what everyone gets as a Results Letter?

Each smear I have had its always the same letter I've had back like the one you get with telling you to make an appointment and the same one sent out with the date for your appointment. I just thought that a Results Letter would look different.

On the pamphlet that was sent out it says

What does 'Cell Changes' mean? And underneath that it says.. If you have cell changes, your Results Letter will tell you?

Sorry I'm quite confused and worried .

Thanks

  • Hello Bellabowie2 and welcome to Cancer Chat!

It can be very confusing when you receive this letter to understand what it means to have abnormal cervical cells. You will find out more here about what this abnormal cervical screening test result means and I hope that the information on our website will reassure you. You can also read more about the treatment you are likely to be offered if you have abnormal cervical cells on this page. We also have specific information on the colposcopy which I hope will be useful to you.

I hope that you will hear from someone here who has been in a similar situation before and that they will be able to reassure you about everything and tell you more about to expect from the procedure.

I hope it all goes well for you!

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you Lucy for replying.

You given me extremely good information but I'm concerned with not knowing what abnormal cells they have found.

I read on another forum that the lady was told she had CIN3, so she knew what cells she had and what treatment was needed.

I just don't understand how I didn't have a proper results letter stating this. As I explained it was like the letter you get in Welsh and English asking you to book for a smear.

That to me is not a results letter.

    Thanks
