Cancer of Unknown Primary

Hi,

Ive posted a few times on here already but im looking for information on CUP.

My mother in law has still not been diagnosed. But they have confirmed metastates of the lungs and liver from her PET scan by a letter sent to her doctor from the consultant.

They carried out a liver biospy which didnt reveal the primary and they now want to do a lung biopsy. Would the primary not show up on the PET?

I understand they need to do tests to find the primary, so she gets the right treatment but im wondering how much longer they will keep searching for it until they throw in the towel.

My concern is the longer this goes on, the worse its getting with no treatment.

She had her first x-ray in November, then CT in December, the PET in january, then copied in on a letter from her consultant to doctor, then a liver biospy and now waiting for the lung biopsy appointment.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you

We've some information on our website here about CUP which will hopefully be helpful. If you'd like to speak to one of our nurses about your questions then you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040. They are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
