Could a Fibroadenoma be something else years later ?

I was diagnosed with a Fibroadenoma 4 years ago, this lump disappeared only to reappear before xmas.

The consultant said it felt like a Fibroadenoma but a little more superior and would do a mammogram and a fine needle asipiration just to be sure. The radiologist said it was definitely a Fibroadenoma and he would send the results by letter to confirm.
So I was a little unnerved when the clinic called to say my result was inconclusive and wanted a core needle biopsy.

My core biopsy was taken at another hospital - they took 5 samples and left in a clip, just in case. I’m currently waiting for the results for which I have an appointment.

Has anyone had a Fibroadenoma that was diagnosed as something else years later?

It is always worrying when you are waiting for results. Are you taking someone with you to your appointment? This is always a good idea.

I hope that you get good results.

  • Hi just read your thread. Sorry to hear your news!

I was told i had a fibroadenoma back in September 2019. They examined me and also done a scan. I still have it today and reading your post has made me worried and want to go back for second opinion.

  • Hi Kimberley, I had my Fibroadenoma for around 2 years before it appeared to disappeared for a good year or two.

This was replaced by the cancer in exactly the same place and same size when I discovered it! Even the radiologist who did the scan and fine needle aspiration earlier this year was confident  it was the same Fibroadenoma and said he would send my results by post. However it was cancer - I was lucky to have found it so early even my surgeon thought it felt innocent and said he would never of said it was cancer.  After 2 operations and radiotherapy I’m thankfully cancer free.

My oncologist said he didn’t think that it was the Fibroadenoma turning cancerous as it would of been a lot larger than it was when removed.

But it’s very strange to be exactly the same size and position.

Most have Fibroadenoma with no ill effects, but if it changes I’d get it checked - even if it’s just for peace of mind.
