Is it possible they can take a biopsy from the wrong place

Hi, I had been waiting for what felt like a lift time to have a biopsy taken from a mass very very high up in my vagina behind my cervix. Finally had it done after waiting 5months. I then waiting 3 weeks for the results. After my OP they said it was very very difficult to get to.im all healed now andi had a feel (checking coil strings) and the scar tissue isn't even on the mass its lower and the mass feels untouched no scar tissue or any evidence a sample had been taken at all. So now I'm in a blind panic I've been having bleeding and pelvic pain for months now and I was hoping this mass could be ticked off my list of concerns but now I feel back to square one.

Would they really take a sample from the wrong thing?

  • Hi,

I had a biopsy taken from a mass in my leg which was in a quite hard to reach place and the consultant said ‘if it comes back as just normal tissue, then we’ve obviously taken it from the wrong place and we’ll try again’.

I think they would be able to tell if it was just normal tissue rather than a part of the mass and then they would have ordered another biopsy. My mass was thankfully totally benign

Saying that, if you’re worried than there’s no harm in getting in touch with them and asking about it just to give yourself some piece of mind.
