Hello! I'm brand new and trying to stay calm but struggling! I have an implant for contraceptive but having some breakthrough bleeding and (sorry) horrific foul discharge. Went to GP for something else and mentioned it. Next thing I'm on the couch, samples taken, told cervix is swollen. Asked if could be menopause but she focused on infection. She said if it was an infection she'd call me, so I waited a week and heard nothing so was pretty chilled. Got home yesterday to a letter, calling me on 2 week urgent referral pathway for gynae appt. Letter says I have symptoms of cancer and is even signed "best wishes, cancer care team". My husband had opened the letter as he is waiting for letter about a scan on his knee so just saw the hospital envelope. He was in mid- meltdown so I had to stay calm and try to reassure him (while internally freaking out). Today I called GP and was told results show no infection so referral needed. And of course....... I googled!!! Realised I have other symptoms- severe constipation, tiredness, leg pain at night and a hard lump in my abdomen (which GP said last month was some kind of cyst but now I think may be a lymph gland..... am a nurse). Have been having some right sided abdo pain for a while, up under ribs, had a scan for that about 4 months ago and told all OK. Have been in and out of GP in last 6 months, worried that maybe they missed referring me earlier. Anyway, today my hubby is worse, he is in proper panic mode, asking me 1001 questions, so have calmly explained that I have some symptoms that could be linked to cancer but most cases are not that so not to worry. It hasn't worked. I have spent all day trying to support him (he has bipolar too), and inside I am SCREAMING!!!
Wondering how to stay sane until my appt in the 17th and what to expect?!- letter says appt will be a few hours with different investigations. Do you get results that day? Also how on earth do you stop brain running away with you???
And how do I keep my hubby calm????
Any advice would be massively appreciated!
