Gastroscopy multiple biopsies

I had a gastroscopy yesterday and was astounded to see they took 15 biopsies from 9 sites. I've been in severe stomach pain today and the hospital has apologised for not telling me that would happen. I can't even drink a hot drink. My question is - was he just being thorough, or should I prepare myself for some bad news as once he looked inside the doctor saw some either cancerous or swollen/ulcerative tissue?

An honest response would be appreciated!

  • Hi

I'm sorry you're having pain after your procedure, I had a number of endoscopies and would always be uncomfortable the next day. I'm not sure of how many biopsies they took each time but personally I would just put it down to them being thorough.

I was eventually diagnosed with stomach cancer and there was nothing other than an innocent looking ulcer visible during my endoscopy. In my experience of speaking to others if something looks untoward they normally do tell you what they suspect so try not to worry.

Hoping that your tests come back clear for you x
