Growth in throat

I went to the doctors last Wednesday as I had a sore throat on my right side which had lingered and I was getting a tingling in my ear. I expected to be sent off with anti biotics so I was surprised when the doctor said she was sending me for an urgent endoscopy. This was done on Saturday and I was told that they found a growth in my throat so I'm now waiting for an ENT appointment which they say will be be within 2 weeks. This has all happened so fast and I'm scared of course. Can anyone share what is likely to happen as no information was given to me. Thanks.

  • Hi Shelly and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry about the growth that's been found but try not to panic or let your thoughts run away with you if you can.

Hopefully some of our members who have had an ENT appointment will let you know what happened soon but you're welcome to have a quick chat about this with our cancer nurses tomorrow on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi I'm feeling the same pain as you at the moment. Persistent sore throat 1 side and ear pain and tingling.
how did everything go for you?

  • Hi, sorry to hear your having problems.

I was diagnosed with Cancer on the base of my tongue and tonsil. I'm now on week 2 of 4 Radiotherapy which they say should cure it. Have you seen your GP?

  • hi Thankyou for your reply. I'm really sorry to hear about your cancer I hope you are doing well

No I haven't seen anyone as my gp is closed because of the virus, I spoke to my dr on the 15th of March after around 3/4 weeks of persistent sore throat, feeling of something stuck and ear pain that comes and goes sometimes it's tingling. She said to gargle salt water for a week so I did that but nothing improved. I called again and spoke to her on the 17th April, where she gave me 7 days worth of antibiotics. I've finished them this evening and I've got a phone call with her tomorrow again because it's still there and nothing has changed at all. She said it will be a refurral to ENT which I'm glad about but also I'm really scared.

  • Hi, I believe I'm doing ok for week 2 thanks :) Tough road ahead but I'll get there.

I was lucky as my GP sent me for an Endoscopy which I had withing 3 days of seeing her. There they found the growth at the base of my tongue and referred me to ENT.

It's great that she says that she will refer you to ENTand I would insist on it if I were you as it's only there you can get a scan and biopsy . Fingers crossed for you that it won't be anything serious.
