Coughing blood and major panic has set in

Hi

Hoping someone can offer some reassurance.

4 weeks ago I cleared my throat and coughed out a small amount I bloody pink phlegm. I spat again and there was a bit more. Repeated the same a few minutes after and had what looked like fresh blood in my mouth. Same again over an hour later but I don't remember if I coughed first. I sucked a lot of saliva in my mouth and spat again and there looked more even redder blood. Nothing has happened producing blood since then. My GP sent me for an xray which was clear. I know from Googling that NICE guidelines say a smoker over 40 ( I am 49 and smoke) should be referred on a 2 week wait for further investigations for hemoptysis. My GP has not done this and said x-ray is enough but guidelines say it's not. She said she will refer me if I cough blood again. I am terrified the x-ray missed lung cancer that caused my bleeding and GP is not taking it seriously. She requested x-ray for 'vomitting' blood and is very vague so I have little faith in her. I intend to call GP practice to discuss this with another doctor. I am so scared. I've barely slept and lost half a stone in a week. I called another helpline who said I should be reassured by x-ray but to speak to GP again asap for an explanation about lack of referral. I had a nasty chest infection before Christmas but it was gone 3 weeks before the blood episode. I've had another sore throat/infection for 10 days which has just cleared up. The bleeding was way before sore throat started. I'm finding it hard to put this down to anything that's not lung cancer. Really struggling to cope with the worry.

Any advice or comments welcome

Thanks
