Burning sensation in right breast very scared

Hello everyone,

im 11 days away from having my appointment at the breast clinic,I'm 35 and with no children.  The last 5 months I've had a burning/tingling sensation on my right breast, specifically in one area top right in line with my armpit. I've seen 5 doctors and they have all examined my breast and said they cannot feel anything, however when I'm home the pain and sensation is constantly their. I'm convinced I can feel a lump but it may just be a lymph node that I keep squeezing. I have a pain in my right shoulder blade and my legs have started aching and feeling so heavy. I'm constantly crying and anxious. No pain medication helps and nothing takes away the sensation. I'm convinced I have breast cancer and even more so convinced I've left it so long that it's now spread. My mum was diagnosed with womb cancer around the time this pain started and suffered a catastrophic stroke after surgery. I'm so stressed out and exhausted. I can deal with more heartache and I just want this to be okay. Has anyone else had these feelings in their breast? It's just the one breast! And underneath has severely sharp tissue pain.  Thank you in advance for any responses. All my love lil

  • Hi there

I'm glad you have been referred to the breast clinic. I would take comfort in the fact that you have been examined by experts who cannot feel anything, although not all breast cancers produce a lump but those ones would produce other symptoms that you do not have.

Your mum's situation must have had a profound impact on you and brought with it a lot of stress and anxiety, this can manifest itself in all sorts of ways, not just mentally but physically too.

I think most women have lumps and bumps in their breasts as well as pain and tingling sensations - I know I did/do, but you've made a giant leap from what is considered normal/hormonal to thinking its breast cancer.  Hopefully, the specialists at the breast clinic will have some answers for you and bring some peace of mind. x

  • Hello

how did you get on at your appointment? Im suffering the same symptoms and awaiting a referral to the breast clinic?

    Allison

  • I know just how you feel.  I too have exactly what you have described but in my left breast near the cleavage.  This has been since early April 2020.   I spoke with my Dr who didn't seem to concerned he thought it was something to do with the nerve endings but offered no explanation as to what could be causing it and he prescribed some cream which was useless.  My mom has given me something called  Voltarol Emulgel (it contains diclofenac) I don't know if it can be bought over the counter but it really does help with the pain and works in minutes.    I also have the shoulder blade pain but left side.  I originally had the same sensation in my left armpit and going down that side but that seems to have mostly subsided.  I don't know if it's to do with the menopause as I'm 51 and not had a period for 12 months now.  I feel like crying sometimes as the pain is relentless unless I use the gel or take ibuprofen although this only lasts for a couple of hours before it returns.

ive just read up on these diagnoses Mastalgia, Mamalgia & Mastodynia.  The first I feel really relates to my symptoms

  • I was wondering how you got on? I have a similar thing, like a burning sensation in the skin above my nipple, when I brush the skin lightly or the shower water hits it the whole nipple area is sore. It sometimes hurts when I move too. It started about 3 months ago. I've always had tender breasts but this is completely new.

Last month I saw my GP who examined me and was not concerned - said it was mastalgia and to come back if it didn't get any better which it hasn't. I'm 61 and long past menopause. I am waiting for a phone call appointment this morning but it's really worrying me sick.

  • Hi .I wondered how you got on . I have similar experience at the moment and am absolutely terrified.  My right breast became bigger and my nipple very itchy and my areola around the nipple as gone bigger to with lots of burning sensation. Went to doctors who as referred me to the breast clinic on the 2 week referral.  .am there at the end of this week. I carnt stop crying .I am 59 years old and now it seems as though it's gone on to my left breast .but only the burning sensation.  Am so scared.

  • hey how did you get on what was your outcome I hoe all well xx

  • How did you get on? I'm experiencing the same thing its very painful even to touch

  • Hi,

I saw your post and it's the same for me. I'm 61 and have this burning, like sunburn pain, on the top part of my right breast above my nipple. It hurts when I touch it or even brush it with my arm etc. Having a breast scan on Saturday and I'm terrified.
have you any updates on yours? Hope you're  ok now. All these aches and pains we get after the menopause scare me like crazy. X

  • Hi, yes it is scary! Thankfully all was good nothing found. I had a mamogram which was all good, and then an ultrasound scan. She couldn't find anything and said it is mastalgia (unexplained pain).

Last week I was at the gym doing the Pectoral machine (haven't been there through lockdown) and it twinged quite noticably, I wonder now if it's chest wall pain as it occured to me I ahd been doing a lot of press ups before it started - but knows!

But I hope it all goes well on Saturday, let us know the outcome. Best wishes x
