I'm sorry you are going through all this. I don't think you would get any quicker service privately now you are in the NHS system. If you haven't heard anything after 2 weeks of your photo perhaps contact the dermatologist's secretary to see if they can give you any idea how long you will be waiting.

Meanwhile, can I say that subungal melanoma is not common - it accounts for only 1% of melanoma diagnoses so hopefully tests will find that the line on your nail has a different cause.

Hello, i have a similair situation to the one youve described and was wondering what the outcome for you was? I am quite nervous and but my gp told me they were not worried as the line on my nail is faint and has not changed from when i noticed it a few mounths ago.

Subungal melanoma is rare so your nail problem may be caused by a fungal infection, trauma or a vitamin deficiency. If it hasn't changed or grown out with the nail I would go back and see your GP & ask for a proper diagnosis and any treatment you can try (especially if it's fungal).
