Breast Biopsies

Hello all

Two weeks today I had to have 3 biopsies taken of a “solid mass”. The lady doing my ultrasound had to get her boss to come and take a look, I got a sense of concern from them  all of a sudden when they asked my age (28) and if it had been sore (it hasn’t). On my pre ultra sound exam the first doctor said “at your age it shouldn’t be more than a cyst or a Fibroadenoma” and then to be told it’s a solid mass after that has got me concerned.

Should I phone agin to see if they’ve had the results?

is the general rule no news is good news? I’ve  been told if it’s bad they would’ve come back to me by now. It’s in my mind all the time I’m keeping myself busy at work and sometimes find myself rushing to get home to see if I’ve had a letter from them. Also they didn’t arrange a follow up appointment for results is that normal

  • Hello Apple123

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently needed some tests on a lump. It's understandable that you may be feeling concerned about the results.

Typically fibroadenoma's are painless and although they can sometimes be diganosed with just an ultrasound it's not uncommon for women to need a biopsy to confirm that is the cause of the lump. The breast cancer now website has some information here which hopefully you will find some reassurance from.

We know that waiting can be a difficult time. Try and keep focused on the positives that you do know. The majority of women seen at breast clinic with a lump are not diagnosed with cancer and as the Consultant has said, you have age on your side.
There's no harm in giving the clinic or secretary a call to see if they have any results back or if they are able to tell you when you might be given an appointment.

If you'd like to speak to one of our nurses for some support and advice then please do give them a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm).

I hope you have some news soon.

    Best wishes,
