Swollen Lymph Node

Hi all,

Have been worrying for a few weeks now and am looking to compare my situation with other people, if you have had a similar experience please do share.

Over 4-5 weeks ago I found a swollen submandibular lymph node on the right side of my neck. It has varied day to day in its size and tenderness, sometimes being smaller or larger, however what stays constant is the fact that its quite firm and movable in the surrounding tissue, as well as non painful. I'd estimate its between 1-1.5cm in size.

I've had no obvious infections since then, apart from a throat infection I contracted 3 weeks after finding the node, so I doubt it's related. I havent experienced any other symptoms like fever, night sweats or fatigue.

Went to see the doctor about it 2 weeks ago and got a blood test which came back borderline, with low neutrophils - I dont know if this is due to the cause of my swollen node or the aforementioned throat infection.

The doctor suggested that I check with my dentist and see if the cause is dental in nature but I havent noticed any symptoms thus far.

I spose I'm scared and looking for reassurance. I understand the people on these forums aren't normally nurses/oncologists but I can't help but worry this could be something serious. I guess i'm asking if anyone has had similar problems before?

Thanks,

M

  • Hi.
I am going through exactly the same thing and terrified.

Found my lump in November, but could have been there for much longer. Went to the doctors who didn't seemed concerned but sent me for blood tests anyway. Bloods came back all within normal range, so I decided to go back to the doctor as a follow up.
Now have pain in my neck, shoulder and jaw?

Got a different doctor who done a more thorough examination, and she found alnother lump under my chin.  So I am just waiting on an appointment now for an ultrasound. Like yourself I have had no other symptoms, in fact I am probably the healthiest I have been in about 20 years.

Done the silly thing of googling and now have myself worried sick x
