Long flat lump in breast. Very scared

Hi all

I am hoping someone has experienced similar as Google isn't showing up anything similar to my breast lump.

I went to the docs three weeks ago after finding a couple of very flat large lumps in my left breast. I have always had very large lumpy boobs but these felt different. Larger and the scary part for me, totally not painful. I am breastfeeding at the moment so initially the doctor said let's rule out mastitis and gave me antibiotics. I was dubious as I don't have any pain, didn't feel poorly etc. Anyway a week later all still.the same so I rebooked with GP and they have referred me to breast clinic for an appointment which is next week.

I am absolutely terrified and obviously thinking the worst. The lumps aren't like anything I can find described on Google. Therw are two obvious lumps. both flat. One kind of a long oval shape one more round. No pain. My boobs are big and flabby so I've always found them hard to check.

Would appreciate any advice, or similar experiences. Thank you so much.

  • Hello Worrying_Wendy and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently found some lumps which have resulted in a referral to the breast clinic. It's natural to be worried about what these may be, particularly as you are breastfeeding at the moment. I'm not sure if you're know but the vast majority of women who are referred to breast clinic don't go on to be diganosed with cancer. It can be helpful to try and keep that in mind.

As you've found, there is a lot of information available on the internet. Unfortunately Dr Google is very good at increasing people's anxiety but not so great at giving accurate answers. I know that you want to know what these lumps are and hopefully your appointment next week will give you answers and reassurance.

I wonder if you might find it helpful to talk things through with one of our team of nurses. If you think it would then they are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope that this helps. Do let us know how you get on at your appointment next week.

    Best wishes,
