Breast lump for ten years

Ive been reading the posts on this page none stop since myppointment lastweek but nothing seems to match my situation.

I went to see the doctor aged 19 (10 years ago) asi had  large ljmp for quite some time inmy right breast, the doctor gave me an xray and said i had some scar tissue ? Ive never hd any surgerg so i just carried on with my life.

Fastforward to 2020 im now 29 and the lump is still there, i had a really painfull lump under my armpit in 2017 which the doctor thought was caused by deoderant. It was like a pea sized lump that was too painful to touch and i couldnt lift my arm. Iasted for around 3 weeks.

I got a really intense burning pain in my breast around a year ago that i ignored but mg breast is now noticeably larger and my nipple is nchanging shape (longer and sticks out more than the other)

I went to see my doctor and she quickly refered me, im due in tomorrow and im so worried.

She says she thinks its about 3cm and is a cyst but wants me to have it removed dfor comfort.

How can she be sure its a cyst? Should i be worried?

Has anybodg else heard of a lump for ten year's?

Its s hard flat lump with edges and feels like it covers from myarmpit to behing my nipple.

Also will i get an answer tomorrow when i attend the breast clinic?

Thanks in advance guys!

  • Hi Jennifer,

I too am at the breast clinic tomorrow, I found a lump just before Xmas which my GP said she was pretty certain it's a cyst but that didn't bring me any reassurance - as you say how can they be sure it's a cyst?

I visited the breast clinic in 2016 after finding a lump in the other breast, that starts near my arm pit & comes to the middle of my boob so it's quite a big lump, that turned out to be thickening of the tissue. When I visited the breast clinic last time I was given my results on the same day in clinic after having an ultra sound. I think if it's a scan you have they give same day results but from what I've made out from other posts if any biopsies are taken you'd have to wait a little longer for results.

I hope everything goes well for you tomorrow, take care.

    Holly xx

  • I found a lump when I was 18 years old (10/11 years ago) and was told it was a cyst and no further action was needed. I had a terrible experience at the breast clinic and had a very nasty doctor who basically said I was silly for reporting it to my gp because of my age. Long story. Fast forward to about a month ago the lump is still there and now my nipple is leaking fluid and starting to become inverted slightly in the middle. I saw my gp who has referred me to the breast clinic and I'm waiting for my appointment to come through. Im in the same boat as you hun but mine isn't as bad as yours. Good luck in your appointment hun. Xxxxx

  • Hi,

how did you all go on? I've had a lump for about 17 years, I was told years ago by a midwife was probably a milk gland swollen so I've never worried. It's grown mow so I've mentioned it to the GP and he's referred me to the breast clinic so obviously now I'm worrying and if it is anything sinister I can't see it been treatable!? My anxiety is not helping. Sorry if I sound like I'm worrying for nothing.
