Referred to breast clinic!

Hi everyone

I have had a lump/hard tissue in 1 of my boobs for around 3 months (I know I probs should have had it checked sooner ) I finally went in 2 weeks ago and they agreed that there is something there but he will wait before referring me and see me again in 4 weeks...well I'm a worring person and I've been checking my boob non stop and to me it felt like it had changed...so got seen again today and he agreed to a slight change and is now referring me!! I just want to know really if anyone else is going through this and if so how long do you wait to be seen?? Do you get told on the day what it is?

Thanks for any advice

  • Hi,

I know this is impossible to do but try not to worry. I was in a very similar situation in December. I went to the Dr with a lump on my right breast. When she felt it she said she was concerned about it but was also concerned that the tissue at the top of my breast felt very nodulated (this wasn't something I had noticed so it really frightened me) I was referred to consultant, mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy. I had to wait a week for the apt and I felt the lump changed slightly even in that week. My apt did come and thankfully all was fine. It was a cyst and the radiologist also found some smaller cysts in the breasts that I couldn't even feel. My consultant believes the cyst changed due to hormone changes in my cycle and I just have to keep an eye on it. I didn't end up having to have a biopsy as they were happy that there was nothing sinister that needed to be looked at further. It all depends on what they see whether you find out on the day or not. If they had to take a biopsy I was told I would have been waiting a week for the results to come back.

Unfortunately I can't tell you whats happening in your body but just wanted to share my story because I know how frightening it can be thinking the worst (especially after Google.....I did it too) but thankfully all was fine and my consultant said majority of these lumps and bumps turn out to be far less serious than what we all dread when waiting for these apts.

Very best of luck with your apt

  • Hi there, I have just come across your post I thought I would reply as I am in a similar situation at the moment. I suffer quite badly with health anxiety so any change / new symptom for me automatically sends me in to panic mode & I begin to think of worst case scenarios. I found a lump just before Xmas & tried to ignore it in the hope that it would go away on its own (very stupid I know). Anyway after constantly checking my boobs on a numerous amount of times every day and googling symptoms I ended up having a panic attack and booked an apt with my GP.

At the apt my GP examined me and felt the lump, she said she was pretty certain it was a cyst but would refer me in to the breast clinic to have an ultrasound and be reviewed. I'm not sure how it works with your Drs or if it may be different for you where you live but I was referred on a two week wait - a process I knew because I found another lump in the other breast back in 2016 which was thickening of the tissue.

I go for my apt this Thursday 30th Jan at the breast clinic and I am absolutely terrified and have made myself ill with anxiety & worry. To the point I have had to take sick leave at work, I can't stop feeling the lump/googling things even though I know I shouldn't and know how this makes me feel.

When I went in 2016 I was given my results on the day after I had a scan. You should get a phone call or letter offering you an apt at the clinic. I hope I have answered your questions and please know that your not on your own - sorry for the long post but I just needed to get it out there. Wishing you all the best, Holly xx

  • Hey

Thanks for replying, so are they going to keep an eye on you now and have regular checks? My anxiety goes through the roof so it's going to be a long 2 week wait for me but its reassuring that it could be something that's not serious.

  • Hi holly

Thanks for replying, I hope tomorrow goes ok for you! Let me know how you get on? I totally get where your coming from with the anxiety all sorts are going through my head...my boss has gone through the same so shes keeping me busy at work which actually helps.

I was told It would be a 2 week wait so it's going to be a long one how soon after your appointment did you get the appointment?

  • Hi Jessie,

Not a problem - thank you also. I will let you know how I get on I'm dreading it just can't wait for this to be over with the waiting game is horrible.

I visited the GP Wednesday 15th & got a phone call on Friday 17th offering me the apt for tomorrow 30th. So quite quick really which it was last time I visited. I hope it goes quick for you but having gone through it the last two weeks it does seem to drag.

    Take care,

    Holly xx
