Has anyone else had these symptoms?!

Hey, I’m new to this group trying to find some answers!

I have the implant and am on my 3rd one which has been in for about a year and a half now, I’ve never had any problems with my periods before, they’ve all been fine, no pain and not regular (maybe every 6-8 weeks) but still normal.l and on the lighter side.

In June last year my periods completely changed, I started having really painful period cramps (which feel like scraping inside as well as the sensation that something is trying to burst out/gush) as well as having really old brown/black blood with very little fresh blood, blood clots around the size of 5p coin and lots of small/tiny clots. As well as this I have a constant burning sensation inside my vaginal wall which is so uncomfortable regardless of whether I’m standing or sitting as well as burning while passing urine. My periods can last for 5-8 days which some days not bleeding then bleeding the next day. However I’m perfectly fine when I’m not on, I don’t have any symptoms expect some abdominal discomfort.

I’ve had tests to rule out any STI’s or infections and was referred to see a gynaecologist. I’ve now had that appointment and they performed a colposcopy and managed to get some cells to send away, I’m also waiting for an appointment for an ultrasound scan and have my next appointment to see the consultant.

Any help will be extremely helpful, I just feel like this sudden change isn’t normal and I’ve been trying to get some kind of answer for months!

Thanks!

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm sorry you are experiencing the symptoms you mention.

Things like this are bound to be stressful, but try not to anticipate what might be the matter, not even your gynaecologist can be sure at the moment.

It sounds like they have taken your symptoms seriously as they arranged for you have a colposcopy and you are now waiting to have a scan. I think until the results are available, no one will be able to tell you any more.Your symptoms could be related to a number of different gynaecological conditions,so they may consider doing further tests over time if needed. It's often a process of elimination to find out the cause of someones symptoms.

I hope you know more about your situation soon.Give us a ring if you want to talk anything over.  Our number is 0808 800 4040 and we are here from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,
