Hard lump under arm

Hi everyone,

I found a hard, painless lump in the "crease" of my left arm pit, around the size and shape of a locket or halls soother, and I fear that it may be something more than a cyst. My doctor has referred me on a 2 week pathway referral, and I was feeling positive and unfazed until I googled (worst thing to do, I know!). I also have had very achy nipples for the past few months, which I put down to monthly hormones.

My first question would be, has anyone else has this and if so, was it more sinister than just a cyst; and secondly, what should I expect from my appointment?

Both my mother and maternal grandmother died in their 50s from cancer (my mother had transitional cell and my grandmother had ovarian and lung as a secondary). I'm 36 and have 5 sisters, and I'm a bit scared at the moment, given the statistics and also that I am a loan parent to my 8 year old.

Sorry for the blunt, negative post, but I would really appreciate some feedback (more want of a better word?!)

Thank you x

  • Hello Deelee,

Oh no! Dr Google is a nightmare....but we've all done it! Regarding the breast clinic referral and what to expect- when I went (I found an area of thickened tissue) The Doctor examined me, then I went for an ultrasound ( due to my age, 35, they didn't do a mammogram.) I didn't need a biopsy as they told me there and then that it was normal fiberous tissue! They were really good with me as I was a nervous wreck!   I'm a single Mum too so I understand your anxiety- hopefully you'll get your results same day and it's all fine

  • Thanks,  I'm obviously hoping paranoia has just kicked in and it's nothing more than a cyst, but was nervous about what the first appt entailed. Fingers crossed for quick results then!

    I wish you well x
