Liver biopsy next week

Hi,

My mother in law has had a cough for many years and it gradually got worse and worse. She had her first doctors appointment in November and was sent for an xray and CT scan. This revealed nodules on her lung and liver.

She has since had a PET Scan and has a liver biopsy and respiratory test booked in for next week but nothing at all has been said about what is wrong. They said they had the results of the PET scan but have not told her anything.

Do you think it will be discussed when she goes for her biopsy? We are all struggling with the wait to find out what is going on. Is this normal?

Thank you

  • Hello Elaine0401

We know that waiting for tests and results can be a really difficult time. It's not uncommon for Dr's to wait to get all/most test results back before giving news to patients. Whilst the PET scan may have given the Dr more information  to add to that from the x-ray and CT scan, the biopsy will reveal more detailed and accurate information.

Waiting can be very frustrating but hopefully once the biopsy is completed the team will be able to give your Mother In law a full picture of the diagnosis and what plan they recommend.

I hope that you don't have to wait too much longer for news.

    Best wishes,
