Really struggling new mum

Hi, hopefully someone can offer some coping tips.

I have an appointment to the breast clinic on Thursday and I'm terrified. I have already been to the clinic in October time for trouble with my left armpit after I weaned my daughter, and they turned out to be reactive lymph nodes. Over Christmas myself and my baby developed a bad cold, and I noticed my right armpit felt swollen. I went to the GP when I got back and she found a lump so she's referred me again to the breast clinic. I just can't face it this time. This armpit feels a lot more swollen than the left did previously and a lot more lumpy and tender. I'm struggling to look after my daughter, every time I see her little face it makes me burst into tears as I've convinced myself I'm going to get a diagnosis of something sinister. I realise I sound ridiculous as I've not actually been told I'm ill, but I just can't shake this feeling of dread.

thank you

  • I'm sorry that you're struggling at the moment Elisajulia. I hope it helps to know that many of our members are also parents so will understand what you're going through at the moment and will hopefully be along soon to offer their support and advice.

Try to stay busy and distract yourself for one more night if you can as Thursday is almost here.

I know I can't take the worry away but we'll have our fingers crossed that the lump is no cause for concern.

    Kind regards,

  • Hello there

There's a good chance that this could be completely innocent.

In fact, way more chance of it being innocent than not.

I've had lumps in my armpit, armpit swelling (and terrible armpit pain), arm pain, lumps and bumps of all shapes and sizes (some hard, some soft), breast rashes (current problem...!), swollen and tender boobs - all benign conditions. My left breast is way more cystic than the right (so a lot more sore and lumpy than the other).

Never been anything but glandular/cystic/innocent tissue. I've always had issues with my breasts, the left one more so, especially as I've got older.

you've not got long to wait now for your appointment...will you let us know how you get on? Xx

  • Thank you for being so kind and offering your support

Turns out it's another lymph node but it's innocent so that's good. Still got swelling but I'm going to GP to see what's happening with that. I hope that this helps someone find some peace whilst they're waiting for the clinic.
