Mole removal

Hi all.
Went to docs in November with something else and he noticed a darker, misshapen freckle on my back that I was not aware of.
Sent straight away to get digital photos at hospital done then had to wait on an app with dermatologist. Waited six weeks to get the feckle removed (two weeks ago) and now I've been told it will be 10 weeks for the results to come back.
I am besides myself with worry.

just wondering if anyone has went through similar? I have been experiencing a slight weird sensation around the area of the mole, before and after removal.

It's the waiting to find out either way that's getting to me. Dermatologist said it was really dark and my doc said 50/50 chance could be melanoma.

big hugs to everyone going through cancer treatment or waiting on a diagnosis xxx

  • Hi Deborah,

I'm so sorry you have such a long wait for your results. The average around the country was 6 weeks before Christmas but it is getting longer due to the festive period and the workload on the hospital through the winter period. There is every chance that they may come back a little sooner, in which case they will give you an earlier appointment, but it may still be mid March.

I doubt that the weird sensation you are feeling in that area is due to the mole - usually moles that are benign or cancerous aren't painful or weird in sensation.

All I can suggest is that you try to keep busy & distract yourself from thinking about it if you can. 75% of patients referred to dermatology get a clean bill of health so hopefully your mole is benign. Good luck and please let us know how you get on,

    Angie (melanoma patient)

  • Hi Deborah,

Sorry to hear about your mole. I had two moles removed on the 17th Dec and awaiting the results from the biospy which will be 6 weeks tomorrow. The result for 1 mole came back a week and half a go but waiting for the result for the second mole, thye have to give results together.

If I'm honest it has been an anxious wait over the christmas period. Angie has been a positive help.

Just hoping for a positive result. Please let us know how you get on.

    Matt

  • Thanks Matt.

it's the waiting that's the worst bit. I know us woman can be a bit on the crabbit side at times ;) but the worry has made it worse!!!
I'm normally so positive but just can't get it out my head it's something sinister.

I guess we just have to patient and what will be will be.

I hope you get good news with your results too. :)

  • Thanks Angie.

Trying the keeping busy technique but every so often we have to torture ourselves and ask Dr Google!!! :|

Thanks for the statistics.... positive :)

it's just all dragged on so long.

    Hope your well x

  • To be honest I find it horrific waiting. Mixed emotions really some days feels really anxious search the net and think the worst case scenario. Other days feel fine about it and keep remind myself I'm 35 fit and healthy and ready to battle anything that might come up.May sound weird but I worry more about my children then me and how they will deal with any bad news.

My aunty has had breast cancer 5 times since the age of 46 and she is now 72 and still alive and fighting fit. Never really stopped her socialising and having a good time. I guess half the battle with anything like this is just remaining positive.

Another issue I have I'm a competitive powerlifter so my body has ached for the past 15 years, so I try not to associate any usual aches and pains which usally go away with a massage to type 3/4 melanoma.

  • It's horrific waiting.
I'm the exact same, I can take whatever is coming to me but the pain of leaving my 20 year old destroys me.
Hopefully we will look back at this time and laugh at how worried we were!!
It's certainly opened my eyes up to the mental torture those with cancer go through. Such strong people.

Anyway, think you'll get your results before I do. I'm only two weeks removal of mole.
    keep us up to date
