hi everyone
i hope im posting this in the right place.
im a 35 year old mum of 2 young boys. ive had earache, fairly constantly for around 5 months. theres no infection and everyone whos looked in them said theyre fine. for around 2 months ive had a feeling of a pill being stuck in my throat again pretty constantly. the gp did bloods, all clear, so referred me to ent.
whilst waiting for the appt i developed the most horrendous sore throat. i couldnt even swallow my own saliva without searing pain. i went back to the gp sho said my throat looked fine so needed to be looked at by ent and made an urgent referal. i was so worried i made a private appointment with a consultant.
the consultant put a camera up my nose and down my throat. he said it looked fine apart from some evidence of silent reflux (i never have heartburn or anything though) and his letter to my doctor said i have a 'bulky right tongue base' and increased lymphatic tissue. he gave me antibiotcs nd anti fungal meds for my throat and the searing pain calmed down in about 48 hours, leaving it just a bit uncomfortable and the lump in my throat feeling. hes doing an mri next week,
i should say that my sore ear is on the left and the sore throat/feeling of something stuck is on the right. i do get some pain in my right ear bit very rarely and its just flashes - its my left ear which has hte constant pain.
is anyone able to please help me with whether my worries might be warranted?? also with the folloiwng questions..
what will happen at the mri? ive looked at photos nd people sem to be inside a tube with a cage on their head?? it lookes pretty awful but is it ok? can i use earhpones to maybe listen to a podcast or soemthing to take my mind off it (i can get a bit panicked!)
will the person who does the mri be able to tell me if they see anything or will i need to wait till my follow up with my conultant?
does the fact that im having an mri mean that the consultant is worried do you think or is it common practice?
is it usual for the ear pain to be on the opposiate side to the throat problems?
does throat cancer bring on bouts of sever pain like ive just had which only last a couple of days?
thank you im nadvance for any help or input ayone could give me x
