HPV positive but normal 3 year recall-now severe dyskaryosis

Hi

i had a smear 3 years ago, it came back HPV positive with low grade dyskaryosis, had a colposcopy, which she said was clear-no abnormal cells found, and put me back onto 3 year recall.

i have just had my latest smear results this morning which says HPV positive with high grade(severe) dyskaryosis

I wasn't aware at the time, only until reading it recently, but shouldn't I have been put on yearly recall when it was first found to be positive?

or can the colposcopy examiner see that there is actually no HPV there? Please help I'm confused and now very scared I feel like they have got it wrong and I should have been seen yearly, and now because I haven't, it's been able to get very serious.
My colposcopy is booked for a week and half away, which I received the text for, before I even received my letter saying what was actually wrong, which I think is very wrong to do.

  • Hi Firsttimemum2019

Hope you're well and praying that your baby is well.
i'm Just wondering how you last smear go? I had a letter saying

I'm hpv positive and severe Dyskaryosis - I'm worried sick and tho I'm feeling positive and grateful that it's caught early I can't help but find support as I cannot tell my husband

  • Hi Chloe123

hope you're well and things are better!

I had this as first time and so worried too! Just wanna ask

how your smear went? And I thought hpv clears 1-2 years but

why you still positive after 3 years? I'm sorry for asking as I will have my colposcopy on a week Monday and can't even tell my own husband. I worry so much I have to children and 1 & 1/2 weeks of wait seemed so long

    thanks so much

  • Hiya

yes it seemed I'd had HPV for a number of years, I had a abnormal smear 3 and half years ago with HPV, and another but severely abnormal back in January, so it seems I have had HPV for a while, as my smear back in 2014 wouldn't have tested for HPV as they didn't back then, so who knows if I even had it then.
but they do say that you can have HPV for years of your body just doesn't rid of it.

BUT, I have just had my 6 month test of cure smear after having the LLETZ treatment back in February, and I'm pleased to say that it came back clear with no HPV detected, so it seems the LLETZ treatment really works.

so don't worry, they say that 9 out of 10 women who have treatment never have any more problems.
the treatment itself I personally found awful, but I have read on here a lot of women found it not that bad, so I think it's how good your threshold is!

    hope you get on ok

  • Hi Chloe

Thanks for your reply, it helps me a lot and im

so pleased for you! It really made hope and be positive that

    everything will be ok!

silly questions, having hpv doesn't infect anyone if you kiss

your kids or share your glass of water? My husband smokes

and I worry I have to tell him and prevent more damages.

Everyday is a struggle and trying to be positive. A week

    on Monday seemed

    forever to wait.

lastly, is LLETZ same as colposcopy?

Thanks so much from the bottom

    of my heart xxx x

  • Hi blessedgirl143,

How was your coloscopy? How are you getting on?

I had my smear 2 weeks ago and got a telephone call today to inform me I have severe dyskaerosis and HPV and have been booked in for Monday for a coloscopy. Totally freaking out as I have been backwards and forwards to the doctors with pelvic pain and pain during sex. Was told it was just hormonal. I had a cervical exam in May and the doctor said cervix was healthy and sent on my way and have now had this news. Not sure what to think.

Any advice would be greatly received as my mind is all over the place.

    Xx

  • Hi L3mmy123,

Sorry for the late reply you must be so worried! But please don't worry!! I was the same and had a month of sleepless stressful day and night until I've got the result-and no Cancer was found! Thank God!

Coloscopy wasn't too bad, it doesn't hurt neither. They've burnt all the abnormal cells right there & then. They've also took a sample of my abnormal cells and sent it to lab to check and make sure there was no cancer. The nurses & the doctor were so lovely! The nurse even hold my hand during the surgery and told me she had it once and it was nothing to be scared or embarrass about! But I didn't tell anyone so it was such a weight off my shoulder to talk about it to someone. I am here for you if anytime you're worried or have any questions.

I've got the biopsy result only few days ago that confined I don't have cancer and everything abnormal was taken out. I will have a follow up test of cure and also they've written I will have a repeat cytology test to make sure the test was successful. Although I have to wait for 6 months and sometimes I worry I do but I have a friend who had the same (I did not tell her my story!) and she said it as completely gone after 6 months and since they've burnt the abnormal cells!

Although I never had pain during sex but some women who's hormonal are like that. And when you had a cervical test and looked good - then don't think too much!

I know it's easier said than done as I was the same but please don't worry. I find comfort in praying. I've done this alone and I'm so proud that it really made me strong. There are almost 99% if not all, successful stories of women about our situation here and I used to screenshot and read them when I feel down and crying, it did help! Lol

But try to relax your mind. It's usually prevention to the C word. All the terms seemed scary but it's not actually as worst as we thought.

and btw, I was leaking for weeks! Yesterday was the first time that I didn't have a blood spot not leake so fingers crossed I can go back to normal now and do some outdoor exercise!

hope my email helped. Message me anytime if you have any questions. YOU'LL BE FINE! Xxxxx

  • Hello :) I know this post is old but I was just wondering how you went on with this as I'm now in the same situation. My doctor said my cervix was healthy but after 2 smears they can't get enough cells and I have tested positive for hpv an got to go for a colposcopy to check as they couldn't get enough cells.
    thabkyou

  • Had my coloposcopy results detected no cancer removed abnormal cells Cin 3 smear in six months time was so relieved

  • Hey! :)

So I had my colposcopy and had my results of the biopsy around 9 days later - all clear and no cancer detected.

I had my follow up smear a couple of months ago and that came back no HPV. So they didn't check for abnormal cells as the HPV infection had gone so I'm back to 3 year recalls.

The colposcopy isn't that bad, a little uncomfortable but the nurses were lovely and it was over before I knew it. It's worth it for the peace of mind. I hope everything goes OK for you. Happy to answer any questions you have as I went out of my mind with worry ️

    Xx

  • Hiya i was the same, no cancer detected,

I had my 6 month test of cure and that came back all clear,

but what I want to know is-they now check for HPV before cells, as they say HPV causes the abnormal cells,

They say if you don't have HPV then you won't have abnormalities.

But is that still the case when you have had abnormal cells removed, had a smear 6 months later-they test for HPV-it's negative so they don't bother checking for abnormal cells, but how do they know that there aren't any still lurking and remaining from before that they may not have been able to get rid of?

I asked my nurse who gave me my results and she couldn't answer me, she said they wouldn't really know would they if they hadn't checked for them.

so I am having private smears once yearly I don't trust that theory.
