Had to have a core biopsy and worried

Hi. I am 39 years old and went to the dr as found a lump in my left breast. Was referred to the hospital and when arrived on examining the dr said he wasn't worried but would send me for a scan and didn't expect for anything to show up. On ultra sound the lump I had found was just fatty tissue. However they found another lump underneath my left breast and had to do a core biopsy. When checking she said to her colleague "I think this is a 6" I'm now worried that she thinks it's cancer. I was too scared to ask what 6 means and was told that I had to wait for a week for the results. I'm going out of my mind.

  • Hi Bev.

breast care nurse said the same to me, but I have gone into complete panic mode. I asked to go private for op but was told, if  I went private I would have to have the whole treatment private and would cost £90k. They sent me for a ct scan last night at 7pm so got to wait for those results now. More waiting and worrying.
This whole thing is mental torture

  • Hey Lou,

It's the waiting that's the worst, I totally agree. So have you been booked in to discuss the CT results, and any news on your surgery?

Not worth worrying about where to get 90k from just to bring it forward a couple of weeks...once things start moving it will feel better. I guess these delays are a lesson in learning to manage our anxiety, if nothing else.

I've been into the local Macmillan Centre today, they were helpful and reassuring. The lady I spoke to was a retired nurse and really kind. Sometimes it's easier having a meltdown with people you don't know.

Hang on in there, we'll be discussing our surgery scars before you know it.

  • Hi Bev

dont know when I will get the CT results I was just called last minute last night to go at 7pm. Tried ringing breast nurses, but goes to answer machine and no-one has called me back (as of yet).

been out for a walk today with my mum and dog. Needed to get some fresh air as all I have done is lay on the sofa and cry!

stay strong and hope you get good results ASAP x

  • Hi Lou,

Good on ya for seeing it through and getting out and about. Hopefully we'll see things finally moving next week.

Have a good weekend, am here if you need support...I've been a bit of a sofa warrior too! Just had a nice delivery of chocolate from my friend I've known since primary school, so I know what I'll be doing (although am trying to be healthy).

    Hi Bevvymama,

How did your MRI go this afternonn? I hope that all went well.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Loumw,

Welcome to our forum. It shouldn't take too long to get your results - normally 1-2 weeks. I know that this sounds like forever just now. Try to keep yourself as busy as you can to make the wait seem shorter. This doesn't all have to be work. Do some things that you enjoy doing too.

Are you planning on taking someone with you to your appointment? This is always a good idea, especially when you are expecting to get any test results back.

I hope that your CT doesn't show anything untoward. We all feel very tearful at your stage, so you are reacting perfectly normally. If it's any consolation, it gets easier once you have a definite diagnosis and know exactly what you are dealing with.

I'm hoping and praying that all turns out well for you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

Thank you for asking. I had the MRI on Tuesday, which was an experience in itself - lying totally still, face doen, with my tatas in two boob holes while the tunnel banged like a techno rave.

I should have had my results appointment today, but it was cancelled as the MRI report isn't ready yet. It'll be Wednesday or next Friday now.

Hope you're OK and whatever struggle you're going through, you have all the support and kindness you need.

Big love. Chin up, all. We've got this..

    HI Bevvymama,

For all that there is no pain involved, I must confess that MRI is not one of my favourite scans. Did they offer you any music to drown out some of the clunks and clicks? I have found that Meatloaf's 'Bat outta Hell' played at high volume is great for this. Most radiographers have a selection of music that they can download for you.

You must be disappointed to have had your appointment yesterday cancelled and, to now have another wait for your results.

I am doing well thanks. I have had 2 bouts in the past 10 years, so have had plenty of time to come to terms with this.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
