concerns with child

Ive been looking at this for over a month now reading peoples threads and looking for help. Ive now got to the point where i feel i need to just write down my concerns and get them out of my head.

My son is now 9, for a long as i can remember he has been a hot bod in bed, never really wore PJ tops only bottoms however in December he started with the most horrendous night sweats, they dont happen every night but when they do were changing the bedding 2-3 times. I just thought he was really hot then he started complaining of feeling cold so i did his temperature and noted he is always running at 37.5. Previously his temp had always been 36+. Then came the pain in his neck, saying it was stiff, initially i told him hed probably slept funny however he continued to complain so i felt his neck and he has 5 swlollen lymph nodes. These have now remained for 6 weeks and last week he started with terrible constipation which has never happened, so bad that he now has PR bleeds occasionally. I have a hospital referal to see the paeditricain after the GP referred us in December however I am now loosing my mind. Ratioanlly I know there is probably a simple explanation for this as he is otherwise well in himself however a mums mind is not rational and mine is now driving me up the wall.

Would love to hear from other parents who have had similar issues.

  • Hello ABT
I'm sorry to hear that you are having concerns about your son's health. As a parent it's natural to be concerned when you feel that something isn't right with your child. It's also easy for that anxiety to lead to thinking about all sorts of outcomes.

It's good that your GP has referred your son to see a paediatrician and as you've said there is probably a simple explanation for everything. It might be helpful for you to write down all your concerns before you see the Consultant so that you're able to raise all the points at the appointment without forgetting anything.
I do hope that you don't have to wait too long and that you have good news.

    Best wishes,

  • Went to the paediatric doctor today. We sat and discussed all my concerns for my son.

He did an examination and said that he can feel lymph nodes but they are only 1cm and because my sons has been complaining of a sore throat for the last 2 months he says it’s due to that.

However at the end said he wants to run some blood test which will be done in the next few weeks.

ive come away still with an impending doom feeling. I don’t have anxiety about it just a very odd feeling.

Now to wait for the blood tests to be done and resulted and then hopefully this silly feeling will go.
