Worried about cervical cancer

Hi everyone. I'm 30 and have not had the courage to go for a smear. Since having my children I've had strange twinges and aches and pains around my left ovary. Heavy periods and anemia.

The last couple of months I've often had strange sensations in my pelvis. Like my womb is irritated or my ovaries are tender. The last few months I've also had discharge streaked with pink occasionally. It started around ovulation then lately it's been at other times.

I decided to order a hpv test. If it came back positive I would go for a smear. Then Monday I started bleeding bright red fresh blood when I went to the loo. I had to wear a pad and it took around 36 hours to settle. I wasn't surprised in some ways as I've felt like I've had a water infection sensation/ achy dull womb and just a feeling something is irritated inside.

I phoned the doctors and they had no appointment but I was able to see a nurse tonight. I told her my hpv results should be back soon. I told her everything that's happened. I explained I had a fibroid in pregnancy. She said she would refer me for an ultrasound and she wanted me to have a smear done. I asked her if it was ok to wait for my results from the test I purchased. She didn't seem to feel that was enough.

My symptoms seem to be getting stronger as time goes on. My back and lower pelvis sometimes feels really mildly achy in the middle. The sporting's getting worse. I hope it's fibroids and I can finally get an answer but I have this horrible feeling that I've got all the symptoms of cervical cancer. My partner's even worried.

Can you tell me your story of how cervical cancer began in you?  Thanks. Worried mum of two

  • Are you worried about having a smear because of what results may be or because you don't like having one? Best thing really is to get it all checked out. Worrying about it will be affecting your health. I waited nearly 6 years to see a Dr about my symptoms as I put it down to pre menopause. Turned out I had an ovarian cyst. All sorted now and I feel great. Please go and get checked out properly and don't put things off waiting.

  • Hi Laura, I was the same as you I wouldn't go for my smear stupidly thought it wouldn't happen to me, I had a miscarriage which made me decide to go for a smear, because I had been spotting between periods I wanted to see if that was why I'd miscarried, i was found to have a1a cervical cancer, the earliest stage, I dread to think what would have happened if I hadn't gone for that smear, I'm not saying you have anything of the sort but it's best to go get checked for peace of mind xx

  • I've had two abnormal cell smears, last year I had colposcopy/lletz, they removed all abnormal cells. But my follow up 6 month smear showed high grade HPV and abnormal cells, I had another colposcopy this morning and the doctor said its precancerous she took a biopsy sample to send for testing. Now it's a waiting game, to see if I have cervical cancer. I am expecting the worse, just to prepare myself I guess. My mum had cervical cancer at my age and had hysterectomy, I know this is a plausible option for me, I'm 45 and have two wonderful teenagers. So I do not need this area anymore. I'm a single mum.

  •  I had a cone biopsy where the surgeon cut the cancerous cells out as I had clear margins, had an MRI scan 3 weeks ago to check it hadn't spread, which thankfully it hasn't, so got an appointment on the 30th of this month to discuss a leetz procedure, I think that's just another precaution  , like I said if I'd have gone for my smears this wouldn't have happened, it took something terrible to make me go, basically my baby I was carrying saved my life xx

  • Hi everyone. Yes I've been to scared to have one after having a bad induction with my baby. I know it's not the same thing but it's just a thought of anything touching that area again. I've sent off a HPV test to a superdrug doctors clinic. I'm going to have any tests now that they suggest I have. I've got an appointment on Thursday for an ultrasound scan.

The last 3 days my tailbone has started to feel bruised and a bit sore and uncomfortable.I am wondering if this is a bad sign on top of spotting pink discharge everyday now. I'm feeling really worried because I have two small children and if these are signs of cervical cancer then I am obviously advanced because it feels as though something is there like a growth causing pressure perhaps.

I know there's also a chance it could be fibroids or a cyst or something I'm just not sure at this stage and I'm preparing myself for bad news.

  • I really hope everything comes back ok. It's so scary being a women

  • Hi Laura sorry to but5in but how did it go with your last appointment
