Tonsils throat cysts

I have one visible and other non visible baked bean size ( and colour ) lesions in my throat which my ENT Consultant assures me are cysts - I am hoping to have surgery next Wednesday to excise the cysts but I am still concerned about them and the origin. Anyone experienced similar ?
Joshy

Had the aforementioned cysts excised under general anaesthetic on the 29th January.

Still curious to hear if any other had cysts in the throat as it is very hard to find reference to throat cysts as such ?

  • Hi joshy

I hope you don't mind me messaging , I have exactly the same thing . One bean shaped cyst on the back wall of my throat .
hope all worked out ok for you? ....as you can imagine I am worrying a lot!

    Thanks

  • Winnie,

after the cysts were removed I have had no further trouble and my throat looks perfectly normal again !

i still have a dry feeling which I think is because the removal left patches with nerve losses or whatever.
I think my ENT specialist only removed the two half bean sized cysts in the end because he knew it was worrying me to be honest.

anyway it was an easy job with only minor pain and discomfort for a few days and the lab. report came back with nothing dodgy found in the cysts removed.

hope this helps to calm your nerves !

  • That's great news! Thanks for getting back to me , it does reassure me!
ive got a face to face ent appointment soon to discuss things . Mine is just under a cm big I think , it's on the back wall of my throat and is oval and raised just like a baked bean lol it's got a yellowish tinge to it . The drs said it sounds like a mucus retention cyst??? Did that sound like yours?
I hope I don't have to have it removed but if I do I'm reassured by your reply at least .
    thank you again ,

  • Winnie, sounds identical - mine looked just like as if you had cut a baked bean in half and stitch each half on the back of my throat low down only just in view with a very wide open mouth ( like yawning stretch )

I was glad to have them removed to be honest as I couldn't stop thinking about them ( daily not every waking moment ) and they didn't look harmless ( I am a worrier when it comes to health issues )

it was not a major event and I walked part way home after the general anaesthetic ( of course they kept me in for about 4 hours after the procedure ) and it was no worse than tonsillitis for three days and after that I was 'cured'

worry not my ENT Consultant said he was happy to leave them alone as they never take bad ways ( in his 38 years experience he said ) but after one year I think he felt I was worrying unduly so he did the job for my peace of mind - which worked wonders !

    good luck

  • Hi [@Winnie14]‍ i til have this exact thing. On baked bean sized lump in my throat. I'm waiting my face to face ent appointment which will be within the next 2 weeks. Have you had yours yet?

my gp wasn't overly worried identifying it as a mucus renention cyst but I've managed to work myself up a about it! Xx

  • Hi rwls

yes I've seen 2 different ENT drs who took one look at it and were not worried in the slightest . They said it was either a common mucous cyst or just irritated granular tissue from bacteria . (I do get tonsil stones) either way it slowly went flatter over the weeks and it's still there but no where near as raised.
they told me if it's not bleeding , bright red or white then it's nothing of concern .

  • Hi Winnie,

I have the same. Two yellow round spots on both tonsils. I have ENT in 10 days time but I've developed pain behind my ear which radiates down my neck.

I was wondering what your outcome was?

  • Hi I was wondering what your outcome was please? I have what sounds the same and have ENT on the 19th but I'm worried sick and now getting ear and neck pain. Thank you

  • Hi Tracyab

I have an mri scan and the lumps were just irregular tonsil tissue and also tonsil stones . I still get ear pain and neck pain too and I'm sure it is linked to the stones . I got myself into a right state thinking something serious was wrong and it wasn't .  Hope your appointment goes ok , let us know how you get on x

  • Thank you so much for replying. I'm really glad it was nothing serious. I'm the exact same, I'm getting myself worked up thinking the worst.

did they remove the stones for you? The ear and neck pain has become unbearable but I don't think the anxiety is helping matters x
