MIL has large mass on pelvis, something isn’t stacking up

Hi all,

so since October my mother in law has been having nausea, reflux, abdominal pain, she has lost a hell of a lot of weight. They diagnosed her with diabetes she still wasn't feeling better then they diagnosed with h-pylori initially get better after both diagnosis but then went back to feeling the same. She has since had an endoscopy and ct scan which found a large mass on her pelvis/ovary. A couple of days after the procedures she got worse to the point she couldn't keep water down and she was showing an infection in her kidneys which they think was caused by a reaction to the dye. Admitted to hospital to pump fluids and she has been doing brilliantly even started eating etc and now again today she says she feels worse than she did when they admitted her to hospital. is this normal with ovarian cancer? Something isn't stacking up right and I'm not sure if some of it is slightly psychological because they have said they would be sending her home soon because her kidneys are looking better or if something else is going on because if it is the suspected cancer causing the issue would these symptoms keep coming and going the way they are? At the minute they can't do any further scans or biopsies due to the reaction that she had

  • Hello JM1979

I'm sorry to hear that your mother in law has been unwell over the past few months which has resultedin her being admitted to hospital. It sounds as if it's a difficult situation if she's too unwell for the hospital to do any further tests.

I would suggest speaking to one of the ward staff about your concerns. It may be that she is worried about going back home and this is contributing to her feeling unwell again but it's also to check that there is nothing else impacting on this.

I hope that things improve for her soon.

    Best wishes,
