Colonoscopy Update - it’s NOT cancer!!

Hi guys, a few of you have been replying to my posts recently about being worried I've got colon / rectal cancer. Well I had my colonoscopy this morning as you're aware from my other post, and I am pleased to say that my colonoscopy only showed 2 small haemorrhoids and NO cancer!!

i just can't believe it....my symptoms have been so dreadful these last few months and got worse in recent weeks, making me feel sooo unwell, so I was convinced I had it! Everything I read online pointed towards it, so I am just soooo happy that I was wrong....

The Consultant did say however that I had a very inflamed swollen rectum and lower colon. So whilst the haemorrhoids are the likely cause of the bleeding I've had the last 4 years on and off, he doesn't think my other symptoms are due to the haemorrhoids; he thinks I have some kind of infection or inflammatory condition. So he took a tissue biopsy of inside my bowel to send off for testing, and also a blood test to check for celiac disease. He also gave me a stool sample form to send off to check for any parasites (i.e. Giardia - which I've seen a couple of people on here say they had this).

Honestly guys I am just so happy and really wanted to share the outcome with you, especially those of you who are worried about having colon cancer, hopefully this will put your mind at rest! If you look back on my previous posts you will see the nature of my symptoms and will see that even with my symptoms (which are all descriptive of colon cancer) it doesn't always mean cancer!! I still feel sicky with tummy pain and bloating etc, pain and pressure up inside my bum is still there, however I now know that whatever it is will be treatable. I've also got anti sickness tablets to help with the nausea until I know my diagnosis.

I just want to say thank you to every one of you who replied to my multiple posts over recent weeks, reassuring me and also to those who took the time to read my catastrophising posts! I had absolutely convinced myself I had colorectal cancer and now I feel so silly and guilty as there are people on here who are suffering from it / know someone who is, so I just want to say sorry to those of you and wish you every ounce of luck and get well wishes on your journey as road to recovery.

thank you all of you xxxxxx

**PS. I am going to do a separate post about my colonoscopy shortly to provide others with some reassurance about the procedure. I was worried sick about mine to the point of tears and racing heart etc, but it honestly absolutely fine! I didn't feel a thing (thanks to the amazing sedation hehe!)

  • Hello, I am waiting to go to the clinic maybe going to have  a colonoscopy and my nerves are gone.

I done the same as you and had a feel inside to see if any masses. At the top I could feel something sticking down in the centre I don't know if that's what you could feel. I was just wondering when you went the hospital did they tell you what you felt as I am out my mind. I have been googleing what should you normally feel and there is nothing that says you should feel anything.

    Many thanks

  • Hey, yeah they told me that was the inner part of my anus (the bit that feels a bit sticky that is what holds in your poop). Pepase try not worry x
