Think I have ovarian cancer

Hi. I'm new to this. Anyway iv been noticing my stomach swelling for a few months now. I had a ca 125 in july last year of 12. Since then iv noticed my stomach looks like I'm 7mths pregnant and getting pelvic pain constantly.

Saw doctor Tuesday and  she examined me and sent me to have bloods done. Told me she will phone me with results Thursday, which she did, my ca 125 is now 149 but all other blood tests fine.

She tryed to get me admitted to hospital because of the pain and to rush scan through quickly,  but hospital said it would not get it done any quicker. Bless my doctor she phoned me 3 times and phoned every hospital to get me a scan and I have one booked for tomorrow.

She said it could be a twisted cyst but I'm not buying that, am I right to think she can not tell me shes worried it could be ovarian cancer.

Plus will they tell me at scan what it is?

Iv cryed all day I'm so worried.

  • Hello Toni

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with some health problems recently. It sounds as if your GP is incredibly supportive which is great.

I hope that your scan went ahead with no problems yesterday. It may be that you've had some news by now but if not I wanted to try and offer some reassurance to say that although a raised CA125 level can be an indicator of ovarian cancer it does not necessarily mean that that's what it is. Other things can impact CA125 levels such as endometriosis and cysts.

I hope that you have some positive news soon and that things settle for you.

  • Thank you for getting back to me.

I had both internal and external scan yesterday,

They said they couldn't see my ovaries but I have got fibroids large and small. Said she will send report to my doctor and if I hadn't heard from her by Tuesday I should phone her.

Are they allowed to tell you if the find something sinister?

  • Hello Tonimom

I'm glad to hear that they were able to complete the scans. It can vary from area to area about how much information a sonographer is "alllowed" to tell you but typically it seems that most sonographers don't tell patients anything at the time other than they will send results to the GP.

I know it's easy to be worried about things but the good news is that you should have some answers within a few days now and hopefully your GP will be able to get the next steps to resolving things sorted quickly.

    Best wishes,
