Worried about tonsil cancer

Hi all bit of a weird one I had an urgent referral to the ENT today for a lump on my tonsil and he looked and had a feel and said he couldn’t feel a lump, and that it’s a fungal infection, I tried to explain that I could feel a lump but he just palmed me off with a mouth wash and said he will see me in 3 months.. should I ask for a second opinion as I’m really worried as several members of my family have lost their lives to cancer including throat and lung

Hi,
ENT isn't my speciality at all but I would stick with the treatment they've given and see how that goes first, your symptoms may disappear once the infection is treated. Obviously if your symptoms don't improve or get worse, you can go back to your GP.
interestingly people can develop tonsil stones.

Yeah that’s what he said also but it’s not that as my GP thought it was going to be that until she looked, have spoken to my GP again and she has sent them a picture as she has also felt the lump and is concerned as she doesn’t believe it’s an infection, I can’t wait another 3 months it’s worrying me and causing me a great deal of anxiety

Your GP is clearly on top of it which is good to hear. Certainly no harm in asking for a second opinion from another ENT Doctor.
