Mole Removal Results?

Hi All

After months of waiting I've finally had my suspect mole removed by excision biopsy at the weekend so now playing the waiting game again for results...!

All throughout the process I've been ok and not researched too much into the implications but since I've had it done I've come down with a bit of a bump! Partly because I'm still hobbling around (mole was found approx 1.5cm in length in between my toes) and in discomfort!

I believe the results take 2-3 weeks? Presume these are normally posted or am I likely to be called back in to a consultant to discuss them?

Any advice?

  • Hi Matt

Just wondered how you got on if you had your results back yet? X

  • Hi Maz,

Apologies I thought I had replied as I did in another forum. Fortunately I received the all clear around week and half ago. The mole on my middle back was just a typical mole and the mole on my shoulder turned out be a freckle.

    Have you received your results?

  • Hi Matt

    What fab news!

    Still waiting for mine unfortunately!

  • Let us know how you get on

  • Hi

Sorry to jump on this old thread . I too have had a mile removed from between my toes. Very painful ! Hope it's healing well?

I was just wondering how you received your results. I had my removal on 11 march and I've just received a letter today as I have been given another appointment on the 29 April. However this letter is dated 12 march only the next day after my op.

Is this just standard booking in an appointment regardless of knowing the outcome. I feel a bit worried.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Hi Amanda,

This is a standard booking procedure at most hospitals. They make an appointment about 8 weeks post surgery to give them time to receive the histology results & discuss them at the Multi Disciplinary Meeting. They prefer to give an appointment that far in advance in case there is a huge workload (it's currently taking about 6 weeks for results to be received back). If the results come back sooner they may bring your appointment forward - it's easier to do it that way than to make an appointment in 4 weeks & then to have to postpone it to a later date.

Good luck with your results and please let us know how you get on,

    Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient)

  • Hi Angie

Thank you for clarifying. I am a bit of a worrier at the best of times.

I will let you know how I get on. Thank you for taking the time to reply.

  • Hello

I hope you don't mind me replying to this forum. I was online searching something and came across the chat and wonder if anyone has had this experience.

I had a mole removed in February and got the result back that it was melanoma and I will need further surgery. Initially I had 4cm off and will now have 7cm however because of Coronovirus, like most surgeries this has been postponed 12 weeks. My consultant was fairly confident that they removed the bad part but it's standard procedure to remove more if it's confirmed as melanoma.

The reason for my post is the past few days I've been experiencing some pain in my leg. My mole was on the back of my thigh and the wound has completely healed. I can't pin point where the pain is but it's like a constant ache all over to the point it's uncomfortable to sit. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this?

I've tried to call my consultant but the dermatology unit is closed and are only doing Skype consultations and the gp is only taking emergency calls which I wouldn't class this as.

Thank you in advance for taking the to read this and respond.

  • Hi Fiona ,

Im sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis, I am booked in on the 29th April to discuss results although I am wondering if they too will cancel.

I personally haven't experienced this since my mole removal. But I did have something similar after previous surgery unrelated. My whole calf felt like it ached constantly and I only felt relief when i rubbed it if that makes sense. I felt I was having to constantly move it about. They sent me for a scan as I was a high risk for blood clot (post c section ) and they didn't find anything. After a few days it subsided. My doctor's at the moment are doing consultations via phone and email. They offer a cold or hot spot surgery, is this something that you could ask if it's doable ?

I'm so sorry I can't be of much help.....but if it's causing you concern could you maybe pop and see a pharmacist ?

Please come back and let me know how you get on and stay safe.

    Amanda xx

  • Hi Amanda

Thank you so much for your reply. I have left a voicemail with the dermatology unit so if I hear nothing by tomorrow and still have the same ache I'll try my GP again about a phone triage call.

I know what you mean by rubbing, I can only get some comfort by stretching it out. Maybe it's scar tissue ‍♀️

Hope you're okay and not worrying about your appt. I don't think they will cancel but most likely be a phone call and I'm sure all will be okay. I had to wait weeks for mine too, it wasn't nice but definitely felt better knowing the mole was off. I felt the worst part was on the run up to getting it off.

Stay safe and keep us updated.
