Hello everyone,
When I was a child I suffered with chronic, recurring bacterial tonsillitis. I would get it upwards of 5 times a year and each time I had it I really would suffer. I couldn't eat, drink or even talk sometimes with the pain and my tonsils would be so large that I struggled to breath. I would always have an extreme reaction to the fever, if hallucinate and pass out. Around the time they started considering me for a tonsillectomy I seemed to reach an age where it became less frequent so in never ended up getting that. As an adult I've still always suffered with it around once or maybe twice a year on occasion. It's always pretty extreme but manageable when it's so infrequent. I gave birth in October 2018 and since then I've had bacterial tonsillitis 8 times. I assumed it was poor immune system after having my son. Twice I've ended up on an IV drip for fluids and antibiotics, on two occasions I've needed two lots of antibiotics as the first prescription doesn't quite do the job. The last time I was in hospital I was finally referred to ENT and they've referred me for a tonsillectomy but the wait is 20 plus weeks. About 2 weeks after the last bout of it, I noticed that my left tonsil which is always the worst one when I have it, was not only still much larger than the other but seemed to have this extra bit at the top of it. I kept an eye on it. It's been about 5 weeks now, I haven't had tonsillitis but the tonsil is still the same. It's like a lump sitting on the top of the tonsil that has a big bloody looking vein like thing in it. It doesn't hurt to swollen but I've noticed that it just feels different to swallow recently than usual, like my spit doesn't go down my theoughbas smoothly, like I really have to gulp. I'm just a little anxious, has anyone had these symptoms and a similar sort of presentation and been referred for a check?? I'm not sure whether to wait for my tonsillectomy or to go back to the GP and request I'm examined by an ENT specialist to see if they're concerned??? I was never actually looked at by an ENT doctor, my case was just verbally referred by the consultant on duty and from looking at my medical history.
thanks a bunch everyone xx
