Need another lletz

I had abnormal cells detected after a smear last year, high levels of precancerous cells cin 3, I had a Lletz procedure done soon after to remove cells, then had a follow up smear 4 weeks ago, sadly HPV virus has been detected as well as abnormal cells, again!! So I need a Lletz again. I am so very upset and worried. My mum had cervical cancer and had hysterectomy 1988, so I have the worry of that too. Can anyone give me advice or share a similar story please? I have also had a painful hip and groin for past 17 months. Not sure if this is connected in some way.

  • Hello Shellebelle74,

I'm sorry that you've been upset over this, but abnormal cells can appear more than once and further treatment is needed to reduce your risk. I can understand you're worried but HPV doesn't neccesarily mean cancer. If you're concerned about the other pains it's best to make your doctor aware of them.

  • Anastasia,  thank you for taking time to reply. I appreciate it. I've had blood tests done today and I'm waiting for Lletz appointment now. Thanks again

  • Hi, I had colposcopy done today, I've high grade HPV and had a biopsy taken, basically to test for cervical cancer.  I'm not worried. I'm kinda expecting the worse, preparing myself, it's in an area I dont need. I was expecting a lletz to be done but Dr said no, shes gonna take sample to be tested. I feel like cancer is around our family a lot lately. My dad passed of lung cancer Dec 2017 and yesterday we got told my sister has been given 3 to 6 months with her brain cancer.

  • Hello, I have gone through the same procedures lately, and I wouldn't worry to much your getting tested and haven't left it that's the main thing chick xx

  • Hi sorry to just jump on but I came across your post and feel like I'm also going through a very small thing I had abnormal cells and high HPV so was referred for a choloscopy.. between all of the appointments I have had some abnormal bleeding unusually heavy and also aching pains in my hips and lower back I had a LLETZ about a week ago and received a letter this morning saying I had cin3 and also cells of that nature present at the edge of the specimen... which im unsure of the meaning to be honest..im 30..a single mum to 4 children between the ages of 3 and 13.. I did smoke and had my first child at 17 plus multiple births...which I also know are contributing factors to cervical cancer...im trying to keep a brave face for the kids but in all honesty I'm terrified and just wanted to wish you well and let you know you're not alone as I'm similar position to myself I hope everything is going well and you're feeling better

  • Hi how did you get on?
    I'm 27 with you kids.
sinilar to you have high grade serve abnormal cells.
went today for a biopsy and had the lettz treatment didn't hurt but they didn't really say anything reassuring so now it's 4 week wait for the results.
    so worried

this was only my second smear my first was no problems. So seems quick in 3 years to go from normal to serve

  • Hi, I've had much the same story as yourself including pain which i woul say radiates between the cervix area and my hip on the right hand side. I've had treatment for cin3 twice now as the second time they had to take more away. Im convinced the pain is from that as each time they take a bit away it settles a bit then has come back again. I've been told that cin3 does not cause pain but it was the pain that drew me to this site to see if others have been experiencing the same and I've found that I'm not alone. I am waiting on results again now so will soon see. I've also went to my doctor to see if they think something else is causing the pain but so far they won't say it's the cin3 but also don't have any other explanation.

I hope you are OK. It's difficult waiting.
