Worried (unnecessarily maybe) about issues

Morning all,

New to this, apologies if this is in the wrong place, etc. Just looking for some advice/reassurance.

So I've been under a bit of stress, on and off, over the last two years. Lately I've noticed I have been having unusual (for me) stomach issues. About a week ago, I had heartburn and a feeling of being bloated/tightness in my abdomen and belly, like wind. The heartburn has kind of lessened to a point where I barely notice it really. I can sometimes feel a pain in my chest, but it's uncomfortable more than anything. After the heartburn lessened, I was woken up in the night with a very warm feeling in my upper belly, uncomfortable but very disconcerting and so i didn't sleep. I also can feel a pain inbetween my shoulder blades and I still have the discomfort in my belly (It's like a knotted, full, bloated feeling).

I went to see my GP yesterday who asked me about symptoms, did an exam where he felt my belly and around my sides and back, and put the symptoms down to acid issues.

Of course, I've been googling stuff, and the rational side to me is saying that well you've been stressed for two years on and off now, you've not really looked after yourself as well as you could (I haven't) and the doctor knows more than you do.

The stressed, anxious side of me is freaking out, incase it's something worse. Like they're signs of stomach or bowel cancer.

Sorry if I'm wasting your time or anything with posting here. Just looking for other perspectives. Thank you.

  • I certainly can't offer any specific reassurance regarding your symptoms but you are not alone thinking those thoughts and you're certainly not wasting anyone's time. From what I have read this is a supportive and helpful forum.

First thing I would recommend is to stay away from google, you'll diagnose something awful from a sore finger eventually.
I had abdominal issues for months and was convinced I had something that the doctors had missed. After some time I accidentally discovered that I was lactose intolerant and every since have managed my symptoms effectively. I had the exact same thoughts as you and visited the doctor several times but they said I had nothing to worry about. Since then I have had various other scares which have culminated with finding a breast lump and being referred to a breast clinic (that was today), what I would say is that  if you feel that you may have health anxiety then I'd try and get some counselling but have faith in the diagnosis from the doctors who have treated you. If things change then go back to them.

    stay strong x
