Lump found on neck.

Hi, I recently found 2 lumps on my neck quite close to each other. About 3cm apart there only slightly visable( probably only to me) but I can deffienlty feel them. One is probably the size of a grain of rice and the other pea size. I can roll them in between my fingers like theres a ball just under my skin. There firm-ish/rubbery and painless. At first I thought it could be an ingrowing hair or spot so I tried to squeeze it which I know I shouldn't, that makes it visible only for a few minutes and then returns to normal. I've got a GP appointment at the end of this month. I'm just worried really dont know if I'm overreacting I've googled it which again i shouldn't do, sounds like It could be swollen lymph nodes wondering if anyone else has had anything similar to this(sorry if this is a stupid questions) cheers :)

  • Hi,

    Whereabouts on your neck?

My advice would be to avoid the internet. I personally only use the NHS and Cancer Research UK website for information and guidance.

My dentist found a lump to the right side of my adams apple, approx 1cm long. It's hard and moves when touched and is soar when I have an infection i.e cold. Cut a long story short I was advised to visit my GP, GP was unsure if it's a lymph node or something else e,g cyst. I was referred to the radiology department. The GP also took a full blood count which I think is common practice with a thyroid/ neck check. Full blood count came back normal.

Visited the radiologist performed an ultrascan. Fortunately she advised me it's a lymph node and suggested no further action required. I struggle with anxiety so I wanted a scond opinion, uncle is a heart surgeon who had a look at the report and scans and agreed with the radiologist.

I find when it comes to this time of year when  the weather is cold and infections are common my lymph nodes are generally raised. We recently took my 2 year old son to the GP as he has a large lump on the back of his neck, however GP was confident it's a raised lymph node and suggested no further action required.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

  • Hi matt

It's near my Adams apple on my left side and the other is near the top of my jawline, I have been having really bad anxiety lately and obviously any lumps found are worth checking, only thing if it is lymph nodes I haven't had a cold or anything recently. Cheers for replying dude I have an appointment this month so I'll know soon. Cheers
