ovarian cancer concern

Hi, im 23 years old. i have Polycystic Ovaries, i for the past year have had abdomen swelling, feeling bloated, change in bowel habit, spotting on and off, bleeding during and after intercourse, i also sometime have pain (only way to describe it is deep inside). im on the depo injection so this may explain the spotting. i went to see  my GP, ive had an ultrasound scan which just showed my PCOS, i asked to be referred routinely back to Gynae as they know me previously for my PCOS. My GP has now fast tracked me for "suspected gynae cancer" and i need to be seeen within 2 weeks. My GP didnt actually tell me they were referring me for this reason they only told me i would be seen within 2 weeks. I saw the referral form on my online patient access. To be honest im scared. I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience or can help put my mind at ease. Thanks

  • Hi, not sure if my experience will help but I had symptoms for long time, nearly 6 years really, constant bleeding and spotting, bloating, and eventually looked like I was pregnant. I put it all down to menopause, I was early 40's. 13 wks ago I had a, full abdominal hysterectomy. After checks, a raised level in ca125, a scan to check for pregnancy and a ct scan I was told that I had a borderline cyst in abdomen area. I was told to prepare myself as likely it could be a cancerous tumour. I had the op, everything removed and a large 45cm cyst. 3wks later results came back all clear, was lowest grade possible of pre cancerous cyst on ovary, no treatment needed. So I am telling you this in the hope that you can see it may not necessarily mean cancer. I know I have been extremely lucky and got sorted very quickly, although I should have seen Dr straight away when it all started 6 years ago. But I am fine and just recovering from hysterectomy now. I do hope all goes well for you

  • Hi, I'm so glad you're sorted now. That sounds pretty frightening. I'm hoping it will be nothing to worry about but there's a family history of ovarian cancer aswell. I'm with a female partner so there's no chance I'm pregnant at all, Although i do look pregnant! Hopefully I'm panicking over nothing and will be fine but you've really helped me so thank you!x

  • Hi, so glad to have helped a little. I wish you All  the best, and happy to chat if you want anytime.
