Flexible Sigmoidoscopy

Hi,

I went to the GP with blood in stool, stomach pain and weird bowel habits and I have been refered for a flexible sigmoidoscopy to see what's going on.

I'm anxious about the test as it sounds really unpleasant and painful. I'd love to hear from anyone who has had one in the past about what to expect and what, if anything, I should do to prepare (other than the specific stuff the hospital need me to do for the test)? I've read a bunch of articles about the test but anything from a personal point of view would be great!

I thought you'd find the information on the flexible sigmoidoscopy test here useful. I hope this makes you feel more prepared and if you find it too uncomfortable at any point you can tell the endoscopist to stop.

Hi,
I have had similar issues, I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy today. I had a colonoscopy last year and decided to have sedation with this procedure too, well worth it if you can. I remember everything that happened, it was over within 15 minutes, a little uncomfortable but not painful. Had a few cramps this afternoon and a little bleeding, but i had biospies taken and it can happen they told me. I worried so much about today and honestly, it wasnt scary atall. I hope it goes okay for you! Dont worry about it.
