Looking for advice! Ovarian related

Im hoping someone will have been through similar circumstances as myself.

ive had a hysterectomy leaving ovaries and prolapse surgery in 2015/2016

ive been having pain in my right side that has worsened over 2 years but have been having bloods etc looking for an autoimmune disease as had lots of different symptoms. Cold/blue hands and feet/ reflux problems/ bp has risen/ weight gain/ extreme fatigue.  Bloods have shown firstly folate anemia which has resolved after 4 months of 5mg folic acid but also CRP 72 and esr 33.

my latest gp visit was to explain my pain has worsened and gp offered camera for bowel but I said I didn’t think it was my bowel even though had some vaginal spotting and bleeding on bowel movements. I thought maybe the prolapse was causing issues.

gp then said let’s send for ultrasound of upper abdomen so I agreed.  On the 29/12 I had scan and was told (upper turned to lower whilst being scanned) that it was definitely a gynaecologist issue and would need referring for CT as looks like a cyst on ovary.  On the 2/1 the gp called to say that I have a 14cm mass on ovary that they can’t say is or isn’t cancer so will be urgently referred but again mentioned CT.  I then received a call on 3/1 to tell me I have a gynaecologist appointment on Tuesday 7/1 which obviously I was expecting but for some reason I thought I would get a ct first?

I’m now thinking the ultrasound showed enough for gynae to see me ASAP?

just wondered if anyone could help.

  • Hello Emm-a76

I'm sorry to hear about the problems you've been dealing with.

I noticed that your appointment with the gynaecologist was today and wondered how it had gone. I hope that they were able to offer some answers and reassurance.

If you have any concerns that you think our nurses may be able to help you with then please do give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello Jenn,

Thanks for replying.  I saw the consultant who said and felt what he called a cystic (fluid type) tumour (which he said was a word he hated as it scares people.  He was shocked at the size and how long I’ve had symptoms for.  Stated it’s only presumed from ovary due to area.  I had bloods taken for CA125, C 15.3, CEA and C 19.9 I think that’s the right numbers?

I asked him straight does he think it’s something sinister and his reply was let’s wait till next week.  My bloods and scan are going to MDT next Wednesday as they won’t get to them this week after being off over Christmas.  Then I will see him the following week on 23/24th Jan, he said it will need to come out and he expects to come across adhesions etc from previous surgeries so will be open surgery.

So in a way he tried to put my mind at ease saying to my husband it’s uniform with a good prognosis but when I put him on the spot he definitely wasn’t happy to say it wasn’t anything (unless I’m really paranoid )

Thanks for listening I needed that as my Dad died aged 51 due to Oesophegus cancer and my mum now 62 is fighting to terminal illnesses (not cancer) which has made this difficult as I won’t tell family etc due to the stress everyone is under already.

    Thanks again
