Complex cyst/mass

Hi folks, hope everyone is as well as can be (given where we are).

I realise no 2 situations are the same and I have to wait for proper diagnosis etc. BUT . . . .just wondered if anyone had been in or is in a similar boat to me just now?

I am 35, Currently 12 weeks pregnant and at my first scan (10 +4 weeks), a complex cyst or mass was found on my left ovary. I was asked a few questions about pain/symptoms etc but didn't discuss too much about it (already considered high risk pregnancy so just very happy to see a wriggly wee bean!) Got blood taken for Ca125  and a return appointment booked to see consultant. The wait is almost over but I've been driving myself crazy with all possibilities - my main concern is the baby. I've read that there is no real change in the approach to diagnosis/treatment whether I'm pregnant or not but would be super grateful if anyone could shed and light on this - good or bad.

Oh and just to add, I have been very symptomatic but realise much of that could be pregnancy related.

Also, sorry for being a bit rambly - first time here!

  • Im really sorry you are going through this. I had ovarian cancer when I was 27, 7 years ago. I wasn't pregnant during it. From what I remember you have time and options. They can wait until you are either along to donsurgury to get it out if they are very worried about it. What size is it? They could monitor it throughout the pregnancy to make sure it's not getting bigger. Complex doesn't immediately mean cancer. Half my cancer was borderline. They might wait until baby is full term and do section and take it out. Ask all the questions. Message me any time if you have questions and I will try to answer them.

  • Thank you for your reply, it really is appreciated. Also very glad it would seem you are fully recovered (forgive me though if I am mistaken).

I really don't know what I'd hoped to get from posting here but felt good to 'do' something other than sit and wait. I don't know what size it is or really very much at all -  I think that's what is making it more difficult because I am a person who likes to know things! Kicking myself for being so mute at the last appointment but like I said - I was so happy to see everything was ok with the baby I really wasn't thinking about much else - that was, until I got home!

Got consultant appointment on Tue and in a weird way, looking forward to it - just to know what I'm dealing with. Also, I have had nearly 2 weeks to cover all question bases so I am definitely ready for it!

Thanks again for your reply x
