Need advise please -Bleeding for over 6 weeks plus

Im new to this site and worried. I took husband to OOH docs Saturday night as he had been bleeding from his bottom for over a week.On way he says it may be 2 weeks, then in with doctors it has been over 6 weeks. I think he was trying to convince himself it was just haemorrhoids.

The doctor gave him an examination of his bottom and said she could not feel any haemorrhoids or see any bleeding and thought it was higher up advising him to call doctors first thing Monday

He called and was then in the surgery 20 mins later and again examined. This doctors thinks it may be haemorrhoids and has referred him for an urgent colonoscopy. He also had bloods done.

He was advised to call the next day to allow report to be sent and book in for colonoscopy which he called but they have no apts at moment so sat waiting, feeling numb and anxious.

It also appears that this bleeding has been going on for alot longer and that he has lost track of time plus also thinking it was piles. The bleeding was only slight at the beginning but now is a lot and the pan and even clothing is covered with bright red blood. In the past few days there have been some quite big dark clots.

Does this look/sound like bowel cancer ? The not knowing is driving me mad and causing us both sleepless nights.

  • Hi DMT,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read what you're both going through at the moment and I can imagine the uncertainty is difficult.

Unfortunately no-one here is able to advise on what the issue may be - the only person/people who can do that are your husband's doctor/medical team.

It's good that you're now in the process of getting further tests. Try to take things one step at a time and I hope it's not too much longer to wait for you to find out more.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Thanks for replying.I think I was just looking for a chance that it isn't what we suspect, but the indicators dont look promising.

He has now been offered an appointment for this Thursday with a consultant but unlikely to be having colonoscopy as they have no availability which is frustrating and is only making us more anxious.

    Thanks
