Need advice, breast cancer

My left nipple has suddenly become very inverted/retracted. It's never happened before so I was very shocked to see it, nevermind how far in it had gone! I think the breast is slightly swollen underneath the nipple area too & it feels almost warm inside but it's hard to explain.

I went to the doc yesterday & they examined me & I'm waiting for an appointment to get a scan to have it checked.

But my nipple isn't retracted all the time. It comes out a bit more when I'm cold etc. Does that mean it's definitely not cancer if it comes out a bit now & again? Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Hi Hannahgood,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. This sort of uncertainty is always unsettling so I can imagine it feels a bit worrying.

Unfortunately no-one here can really advise on what the issue may be or what certain things mean - it's only your doctor who can do this.

Try to keep your mind off it as much as possible until your appointment and hopefully you will have answers soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi Hannah I was in a similar situation to you in February and to be honest wasn’t too concerned as I couldn’t feel any lumps I did have what looked like a very pale bruise.didnt feel hot like you’re saying yours does. I was referred and surgeon said it could be a number of things including an infection in the ducts. Unfortunately mine was BC but was caught early, had lumpectomy and radiotherapy and now getting on with life. I know it’s easier said than done but try not to worry. Most changes/lumps are not cancer.   Best wishes nicky xx

  • Hey, thank you for replying.

I'm so sorry for what you've been through :( That's amazing that you're doing ok & getting on :)

Yeah it's been driving me crazy waiting! The "hotness" has stopped so I must've just been having a hot one that day haha But my nipples still going in a lot. I've read about all the other things it could possibly be & I don't have any of the symptoms of those. I'm just worried with how quick it's happened but I'm sure it's nothing. Thanks again for your help x
