Waiting for biopsy results

I was at the breast clinic New Year's Eve. After they did a biopsy we waited around for a long time and were then seen by the dr right near the end of the clinic. They could tell I was really upset because I was already assuming they had seen something bad but she told me they think it's benign but need the test to be sure. Because I'm so stressed waiting for this result I keep asking myself if they just told me that so I could have one more week of feeling positive to then give me bad news later. Would they really do this to me? Did they keep me waiting so long because they were discussing this? I'm terrified.

  • Hi Learay I can understand the worry and anxiety you have just now waiting for results. I am in a similar position. I was at the breast clinic on 26th of November. Had mammogram and then ultrasound and fine needle aspiration. I got the results of the fine needle aspiration the same day they believe that the lump is benign. But to double check because of my age I am waiting for a core needle biopsy which will be done next Wednesday 8th of Jan and then results within 2 weeks. I hope the results come back the same but I am also thankful that they are being thorough and doing the extra biopsy. I hope you get good results thinking of you.

  • Thank you for your reply, I hope everything goes well for you, it sounds like you've had a long wait to sort this out. People keep telling me my anxiety and stress is causing how I feel at the moment but I'm scared it's something to do with the lump. I have pain in my back, shoulders and various other places. I panicked last week and went to A&E who did a chest X-ray and some blood tests, they said I shouldn't be worrying about that and it must be stress causing it. The further away from those results I get the harder it is to believe that's all it is.

  • I have my appointment on Friday. From all the reading on here and research i have done they usually know it's cancer straight away after they do the biopsy. They still send it away to be tested if it looks benign to be safe and only a very small few of those come back positive, so if they say it looks benign it's because they truly believe it to be and there is a very good chanced it will come back clear. I hope that puts your mind at ease.
