Anxiety Waiting for CT Scan

Hi there

My husband has been worried about a lot of pain and is concerned he has a lump in abdomen / liver area.

GP didn't show over-concern and carried out bloods / stool sample - all normal.  He referred him on to hospital who took detailed history and referred on for CT scan two weeks but didn't really say much beyond that.

However, the wait is making him very anxious - very distant, pre-occupied, teary - I feel terrible I can't do anything for him - he is expecting the worst news and he just needs this appointment to happen.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice on how long he should expect to wait for scan?

Thanks.

  • Hi Mrs_H,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read how your husband is feeling. It's understandable and often the waiting for information is really dificult, with the uncertainty around it.

People often say the best thing is to try to keep busy and distracted, in an effort to keep your mind off it.

He should hopefully receive an appointment within 1-3 weeks but we can't really advise on the expected waiting time for the scan as it can vary.

Hopefully he is somewhat reassured by the GP not seeming concerned. Try to carry on as normally as possible in the meantime and I hope it's not too much longer to wait.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
