Help with 2ww diagnosis

Hello,

My father in law has been unwell for about 3 months with a nusicance cough. After us nagging for months he finally went to the doctors. Long story cut short his been on antibiotics on and off and most recently went for an ultra sound scan on the 27th december 2019.  3 days later 30th December he gets a call from the hospital asking him to come in, or to discuss on the phone. They stated on the phone that they had found something on his pancreas and he needed to have a telephone triage call and to collect a letter from his GP.  The call would be up to 48 hours later. They called on the 31st Jan and have booked him a 10-15 min consultation with a doctor at our local hospital. The letter about the call triage stated that it was for 2ww Lower GI.

I am after some advice on what to expect. I would rather prepare for the worst. My father in law has been poorly for a while with a large bloated stomach, a cough that wont go, the last few weeks he has lost so much weight and his appetite has gone. What are the next steps and can someone please try and tell me what we are to expect? we are a small family and our minds have been going crazy over the bank holiday period.

Thank you everyone.

  • Hi Lauren_A,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read what you're going through at the moment and I can imagine this is a difficult time.

It is hard to say what the next steps are as it will depend on what the consultant suggests and no-one here is able to advise for sure. It is likely that they will do further tests to work out what's going on and then there will be some next steps from there depending on the results.

If you'd like to talk things through with our nurses to perhaps get some further advice or to discuss anything, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
