Lump in armpit

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum and just found it through a google search.

Thought it might be a good place to talk. So far only my husband and I know about this as I don't want to worry any family or friends until I know I absolutely have to. I'm very much a talker though and hate to bottle things up so thought this may help me through the next 2 weeks

so basically I found a lump in my armpit 3 nights ago while in the shower, I am currently pregnant with my third child and initially thought it's probably just to do with milk ducts or something but when I showed it to my husband he was quite worried about the look of it and urged me to see my GP which I did yesterday morning, I honestly thought she would send me away again saying it was normal but instead she has referred me to the breast clinic to have it checked.

since then I've been terrified at the real prospect that this could be cancer, GP said it should be 2 weeks or possibly longer with a back log of the Christmas holidays

I'm not sure how to get through the next few weeks with this on my mind I can't think of anything else.

The thought of possibly not being around to see my children grow up is terrifying me.

I suppose I'm just looking for anyone who is or has been in same situation, would love to hear any stories /experiences both good and bad outcomes.

Thanks

  • Yes I have read that in some places too that they try to let you know on same day if they possibly can so let's hope that's right.

I'll be thinking about you. Hopefully this time tomorrow night you'll be feeling a lot better about the whole thing x

  • Well .... just wandering how you got on today?

    Hope you're ok

    xx

  • Hi,

I'm sorry for the delay in letting you know. I've literally just sat down. I'm absolutely FINE. It's a cyst. I cried when they told me.

The breast clinic was much busier, and much more informal than I imagined it to be. That put me at ease. I was the only pregnant person there, but there was a few people my age (28) there too which made me feel better too.
I received a letter this morning with all the details on - I can take a picture for you if you like? It stated that the appointment could take up to three hours, but it didn't. I was seen and left within an hour. I saw a consultant first, who asked me to take my top half of clothing off. She felt my boobs and armpits while I sat up, then laid down and did it again whilst moving my arms around. She found the lump and drew a circle around it - then sent me to the radiographer. It was just like a baby scan, but on my armpit. I didn't have a mammogram but some people can have an x-ray, then a scan, then a mammogram depending on where the lump is and what it's like.

After my scan the radiographer sent me back to the waiting room, then the doctor called me back in with the results about ten mins later.

I hope knowing this and knowing what might happen for you makes you feel better.

Please let me know when you get your appointment and how you get on.

    xxx

  • Oh I am delighted to hear this news you must feel so relieved.

you can totally relax now and start looking forward to your new little baby's arrival.

You've definitely given me some hope too that it can still be a positive outcome.

The breast clinic called me yesterday with my appointment but it's not til 23rd January which seems so long but just have to try and keep as positive as I can til then as life has to go on until I know what I'm dealing with.

I will definitely let you know though. All the best for you little baby too, so exciting enjoy every second x
